Job Description

The Haematology Commercial Associate Director Spain is responsible for developing and implementing the commercial strategy for the Haematology business in Spain. This role requires a strong understanding of the market landscape and Vertex's position within it. The successful candidate will lead the country Commercial Haematology team and drive business activities aligned with performance goals. They will report to the Country General Manager and contribute to the Country leadership team to strengthen the local business.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement the country commercial strategy for Haematology in alignment with International Commercial strategic objectives.
Shape and build the Haematology organization by hiring and setting the country vision.
Lead the commercial Haematology field team.
Understand the value drivers of Vertex and lead the business to identify profitable commercial opportunities to grow revenue and market share.
Launch Vertex's first investigational genetic therapy for hemoglobinopathies in Spain.
Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of key physicians and haematology centres to ensure their needs are met and their business is retained.
Lead the identification and activation of Authorized Treatment Centres at the country level.
Maintain an awareness of external factors impacting the Haematology business.
Champion and lead new product or service development from innovation to successful implementation across each business function.
Develop and execute multiple digital and educational campaigns for the SCD & TDT patient and HCP communities.
Partner with VP of International Haematology, IHQ Commercial haem team, and international functional leads to shape the international Haem strategy and brand life-cycle activities.
Contribute to the access and reimbursement strategy in the country.
Ensure regular reviews are carried out with customers to meet their needs and achieve excellent customer service.
Represent the company externally to enhance and strengthen the company's profile and optimize business development opportunities.
Ensure all Haematology commercial activities meet or improve on budget, revenue, cost, volume, and efficiency targets in line with business objectives.
Implement company policies and procedures to ensure 100% compliance at all times.
Work and collaborate cross-functionally within Vertex to smooth country operation and meet customer needs.

Requirements

Strong leadership skills with a robust people leadership track record and significant experience in the biotech industry dealing with Haematology and/or rare diseases.
Proven commercial launch/in-market experience of Cell and Gene Therapy, Haematology, or rare disease including unlicensed medicines.
Deep knowledge and understanding of the country healthcare market for Gene Therapies, Haematology, or rare disease.
Fluent in English.
Solid understanding of the compliance framework with a high level of integrity.
Capacity to lead and motivate people in a matrix organization.
Innovative with entrepreneurial flair.
Hands-on approach with a can-do attitude.
Ability to work in a highly dynamic and fast-growing organization with demonstrated capability to be at ease in a matrix structure with ability to influence.
Strong and successful background in sales and marketing or as a Business Unit lead.

Ability to oversee generation of insights and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities and make strategic recommendations.
Good communication skills (written and verbal) at all levels and ability to influence at a senior level, both internally and externally.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in life science, business or marketing.
Typically requires 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in sales, marketing or commercial excellence roles, including 2 years or more of experience in sales management and/or sales learning and development/coaching roles, and 2 years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
