Job Overview

The Haematology Commercial Associate Director Spain is a key role within Vertex, responsible for developing and implementing the commercial strategy for the Haematology business at the country level. This individual will lead the country Commercial Haematology team and drive business activities aligned with performance goals of the portfolio, tracking performance against those goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement the country commercial strategy for Haematology, aligning with International Commercial strategic objectives
  • Shape and build the Haematology organization by hiring and setting the country vision
  • Lead the commercial Haematology field team, understanding value drivers of Vertex and identifying profitable commercial opportunities to grow revenue and market share
  • Launch Vertex's first investigational genetic therapy for hemoglobinopathies in Spain, including sickle cell disease and transfusion-dependent beta thalassemia
  • Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of key physicians and haematology centres, ensuring their needs are met and business is retained
  • Lead the identification and activation of Authorized Treatment Centres at the country level
  • Maintain awareness of external factors impacting the Haematology business, including competitors, government initiatives, and legislation
  • Champion and lead new product or service development, from innovation to successful implementation across business functions
  • Develop and execute digital and educational campaigns for the SCD & TDT patient and HCP communities
  • Partner with VP of International Haematology, IHQ Commercial haem team, and international functional leads to shape the international Haem strategy and brand life-cycle activities
  • Contribute to access and reimbursement strategy in the country
  • Ensure regular reviews with customers to meet their needs and achieve excellent customer service, developing future improvements/services
  • Represent the company externally, enhancing and strengthening the company's profile and optimizing business development opportunities
  • Ensure Haematology commercial activities meet or improve on budget, revenue, cost, volume, and efficiency targets, in line with business objectives
  • Implement company policies and procedures, ensuring 100% compliance at all times

Requirements

  • Strong leadership skills, with a robust people leadership track record and significant experience in the biotech industry, dealing with Haematology and/or rare diseases
  • Proven commercial launch/in-market experience of Cell and Gene Therapy, Haematology, or rare disease, including unlicensed medicines
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the country healthcare market for Gene Therapies, Haematology, or rare disease
  • Fluent in English
  • Solid understanding of the compliance framework, with a high level of integrity
  • Capacity to lead and motivate people in a matrix organization
  • Innovative with entrepreneurial flair
  • Hands-on approach, with a 'can-do' attitude
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic and fast-growing organization, with demonstrated capability to be at ease in a matrix structure, influencing others

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in life science, business, or marketing
  • Typically requires 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in sales, marketing, or commercial excellence roles, including 2 years or more of experience in sales management and/or sales learning and development/coaching roles, and 2 years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
