The role of a Translation Quality Specialist involves exceptional linguistic proficiency and translation expertise, alongside strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail. Effective communication is essential for managing relationships with colleagues, external partners, and various stakeholders.

This specialist is responsible for maintaining quality standards by evaluating and scoring translations, whether generated by machines or performed by humans. They work with language resources such as style guides, translation memories, and terminology databases, providing detailed and structured feedback based on a thorough understanding of the Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM) framework.

The insights gained from this feedback will be instrumental in enhancing the quality of human translators, refining machine translation systems, and improving quality prediction models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct quality assessments by proofreading and reviewing linguistic outputs from freelance translators, peers, and external vendors to ensure compliance with both customer and company quality benchmarks.
  • Offer constructive feedback and linguistic coaching to peers, freelance translators, and external vendors, actively participating in quality enhancement initiatives as necessary.
  • Evaluate and enhance the quality of machine translation outputs by providing linguistic assessments and recommendations.
  • Track the quality progress of external vendors, investigate discrepancies, and collaborate with internal teams to implement measures for quality improvement.
  • Contribute to the upkeep of existing language resources, including Style Guides, Term Bases, and Translation Memories.
  • Occasionally perform manual translations, particularly during the introduction of new language combinations.
  • At times, post-edit machine-translated product detail pages efficiently to improve product availability for customers in their preferred language.
  • Depending on team needs and personal skills, assist leadership, business, and tech teams by engaging in training, project management, and other relevant activities.
Basic Qualifications

  • Native-level proficiency in Swedish (or minimum C2).
  • Exceptional localization skills from English and German (both minimum C1) into Swedish.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English.
  • Bachelor's degree in Translation, Communications, Linguistics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Strong analytical, writing, and editorial capabilities.
  • High attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated personal initiative, decisiveness, and independence.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Flexibility and proven ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in proofreading or post-editing machine-translated content is highly advantageous.
  • Familiarity with machine translation, large language models, and annotations.
  • Strong knowledge of CAT tools.
  • Experience with markup languages and working with UI strings and e-learning content.
  • Project management and coordination experience.
  • Aptitude for making logical decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Experience working as part of a global team across different time zones.
