The role of a Translation Quality Specialist is pivotal in ensuring the excellence of linguistic services. This position demands exceptional language proficiency, meticulous organization, and effective communication skills to foster collaboration with colleagues, external partners, and stakeholders.

The specialist is responsible for maintaining high standards by evaluating and scoring translations, whether generated by machines or human translators. This involves utilizing language resources such as style guides, translation memories, and term bases, while providing detailed and structured feedback grounded in a solid understanding of the Multidimensional Quality Metrics (MQM) framework.

This feedback plays a crucial role in enhancing the quality of human translators, refining machine translation systems, and improving quality prediction models.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform quality assessments by proofreading and reviewing linguistic work from freelance translators and external vendors to ensure compliance with quality standards.
  • Offer constructive feedback and linguistic coaching to peers and external vendors, engaging in initiatives aimed at quality enhancement.
  • Evaluate and enhance the quality of machine translation outputs by providing linguistic insights.
  • Track the quality progress of external vendors, investigate discrepancies, and collaborate with internal teams to implement quality improvement strategies.
  • Contribute to the upkeep of existing language resources, including Style Guides, Term Bases, and Translation Memories.
  • Occasionally provide manual translations during the introduction of new language combinations.
  • Post-edit machine-translated content efficiently to increase product availability in the preferred language.
  • Support leadership and technical teams by participating in training and project management activities as needed.
Basic Qualifications

  • Native-level proficiency in Swedish (or minimum C2).
  • Exceptional localization skills from English and German (both minimum C1) into Swedish.
  • Fluency in both spoken and written English.
  • Bachelor's degree in Translation, Communications, Linguistics, or a related field (Master's degree preferred).
  • Strong analytical, writing, and editorial capabilities.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • High degree of personal initiative, decisiveness, and independence.
  • Outstanding communication and collaboration skills.
  • Flexibility and proven ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and Outlook.
Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in proofreading or post-editing machine-translated content is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with machine translation, large language models, and annotations.
  • Proficient in CAT tools.
  • Experience with markup languages and working with UI strings and e-learning content.
  • Project management and coordination experience.
  • Able to make logical decisions in ambiguous situations.
  • Experience working in a global team across different time zones.
