Position Overview:

Rockwell Automation - Kalypso is seeking an Advanced Process Control (APC) Engineer. We welcome applications from recent graduates

Business Division:

For over 25 years, our team has leveraged our software solutions and engineering methodologies to develop advanced analytics and model predictive control applications for clients worldwide. Our applications seamlessly integrate with existing manufacturing infrastructures to enhance product quality, increase production efficiency, and optimize energy consumption. Our operations span multiple industries, providing our staff with extensive exposure to diverse manufacturing environments. We currently engage significantly in sectors such as food processing, polymers, biofuels, refining, and mineral processing, with numerous exciting developments on the horizon.

Key Responsibilities:

As an Advanced Process Control Engineer, you will play a crucial role within custom application delivery teams, utilizing Rockwell Automation's advanced analytics and model predictive control products to develop online applications aimed at enhancing our clients' manufacturing processes. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Evaluating customer processes and creating mathematical models to predict system behavior.
  • Configuring online applications that leverage these models to dynamically manage product quality, production efficiency, and energy consumption.
  • Overseeing the complete technical implementation of assigned projects, from initial design through to commissioning and customer acceptance.
  • Supporting hardware installation and system integration.

Additional Duties:

  • Execute technical project tasks including design, system integration, installation, data analysis, modeling, application development, and commissioning as directed by the Regional Technical Manager (RTM).
  • Identify and communicate technical issues affecting project performance to the RTM.
  • Provide the RTM with project updates related to cost performance and any performance guarantees.
  • Assist the RTM in documenting best practices for application development.
  • Lead advanced analytics initiatives and mentor junior engineers.

Support Responsibilities:

  • Deliver product, engineering, and application support to existing clients.
  • Conduct periodic system and application health assessments, performance analyses, and generate reports to document findings and recommendations.
  • Follow up on recommendations to sustain and enhance the value our applications provide to clients.

Sales Support:

  • Assist Solution Consultants in market development activities as requested by the Regional Delivery Manager (RDM).
  • Participate in sales closure activities as needed.

Management Duties:

  • Pursue professional development opportunities to maintain billability and cost-effectiveness.
  • Support the project staffing process to optimize overall delivery department margins.

Performance Metrics:

  • Achieve or surpass customer satisfaction targets.
  • Ensure project delivery aligns with timelines, budgets, and contract specifications.
  • Maintain or enhance project margins and utilization rates.
  • Attain relevant industry certifications.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent in chemical engineering or a related field with a strong emphasis on modeling, statistics, or process control.
  • A keen interest in automation, process control, and advanced model-predictive applications.
  • Self-driven with exceptional interpersonal, communication, and organizational abilities.
  • Proven experience in managing complex projects within a process industry.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation, industrial control systems, and supervisory control applications.
  • Experience in advanced process control implementation or business case development.
  • Knowledge of DCS (SCADA, HMI, etc.) and/or PLC configuration.
  • Willingness to travel up to 50% of the time, including potential international assignments.
  • Compliance with customer safety and health protocols, including drug testing and safety training.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Over 3 years of experience implementing advanced control solutions in a process manufacturing context.
  • Leadership experience in managing complex projects.
  • A degree in chemical engineering or a related field with a focus on modeling, statistics, or process control.
  • Experience with industrial computing, networking, and data communications (OPC and ODBC/SQL).
  • Familiarity with DCS (SCADA, HMI, etc.) and/or PLC configuration, particularly regarding integration with external applications.
  • Experience with Rockwell Automation or competing model predictive control products.
  • Knowledge of Rockwell Automation or competitive predictive emissions monitoring systems.
