About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team in Spain, based in our Madrid or Barcelona office. As a Legal Counsel for Spain, you will play a critical role in proactively identifying and mitigating all legal risks relating to the real estate development and operations of our data centre and light industrial/logistics asset classes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, Review, and Negotiate Agreements: You will be responsible for drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements and other legal documents in relation to the development of data centre and light industrial/logistics projects, including energy, power, and grid connection and use, RIBA and other design engineering and architect services, EPC agreements, and procurement.
  • Stay Up-to-Date on Relevant Laws and Regulations: You will stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, case law, and industry trends impacting the company and proactively advise the organisation on potential legal risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure Compliance and Train the Team: You will ensure compliance with the company's policies, standards, and values, and train and educate the Spanish team on relevant legal and compliance matters, fostering a culture of legal awareness and compliance.
  • Manage External Law Firms and Litigation: You will involve and manage external law firms in an effective and timely way and at fair cost, ensuring the coordination of legal disputes and/or litigation.
  • Collaborate with the European Team: You will work in close collaboration with the other Legal Counsel in Madrid and the European legal team, the Spanish business team, and the wider European team.
Requirements
  • Master's Degree in Law: You must have a Master's degree in law from a Spanish university, with an additional degree or LLM considered a plus.
  • Experience in Construction Law: You must have at least 8 years of proven experience as a legal counsel or a similar role in a company or law firm, with a minimum of 5 years in construction law for major infrastructure projects and/or data centers.
  • Expertise in Energy and Construction Law: You must have excellent knowledge of contract law, construction law, and energy law, with a strong interest in all regulatory changes triggered by sustainability.
