About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team in Spain, based in our Madrid or Barcelona office. As a Legal Counsel for Spain, you will play a critical role in proactively identifying and mitigating all legal risks relating to real estate development and operations, with a strong focus on energy and construction law and procurement.

Key Responsibilities
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and manage agreements and other legal documents in relation to the development of data centre and light industrial/logistics projects, including energy, power and grid connection and use, RIBA and other design engineering and architect services, EPC agreements, and procurement.
  • Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, case law, and industry trends impacting the company, and proactively advise the organisation on potential legal risks and opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with the company's policies, standards, and values.
  • Train and educate the Spanish team on relevant legal and compliance matters, and foster a culture of legal awareness and compliance.
  • Involve and manage external law firms in an effective and timely way and at fair cost.
  • Ensure the coordination of legal disputes and/or litigation.
  • Work in close collaboration with the other Legal Counsel in Madrid and the European legal team, the Spanish business team, and the wider European team.
Requirements
  • Master's degree in law from a Spanish university. Additional degree or LLM is considered a plus.
  • Excellent knowledge of contract law, construction law, and energy law with a strong interest in all regulatory changes triggered by sustainability.
  • At least 8 years of proven experience as a legal counsel or a similar role in a company or law firm, of which a minimum of 5 years in construction law for major (infrastructure) projects and/or data centers.
  • The ideal candidate should have experience with drafting, negotiating, and managing contracts relating to energy, power and grid connection and use, RIBA and other design engineering and architect services, EPC agreements, including Fidic yellow and silver book, procurement, and contracts for related renewable energy and other innovative projects.
