Job Title: Groundworker
Employment Type: Full-Time/Non-Exempt
Reporting To: Crew Leader/General Foreperson
Key Responsibilities of a Groundworker:
- Operates chainsaws to clear brush, logs, and stumps from larger trees, working primarily from the ground with gasoline-powered equipment.
- Handles loading and unloading of trucks with logs, stumps, brush, and debris, while also feeding materials into a wood chipper. Responsible for gathering brush and transporting it to the chipper area.
- Works in proximity to hazardous machinery and equipment.
- Endures high noise levels from machinery, chainsaws, and wood chippers, necessitating the use of appropriate personal protective equipment.
- Exposed to varying weather conditions and natural elements, including irritants such as plants and insects.
- May navigate rough and uneven terrain.
- Assists in enforcing safety protocols on-site for the crew.
- Ensures the safety of coworkers and the public by managing hazards in the work area, coordinating with local authorities when necessary, and setting up safety barriers and warning signs.
- Applies herbicides and growth regulators to manage stumps and brush effectively.
- Operates trucks equipped with brush chippers or other trailers.
- Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
- Responsible for the setup and management of tools and equipment at the job site.
- Conducts maintenance on trucks, chippers, and equipment, ensuring they are kept in good working order and reporting any maintenance needs to the crew leader.
- Performs additional related tasks as required or assigned.
Minimum Qualifications for Groundworker:
- Ability to wear necessary personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Capable of entering and exiting a vehicle multiple times throughout the day.
- Must withstand exposure to various weather conditions while performing job duties.
- Proficient in reading, writing, and understanding written and verbal instructions.
- Effective communication skills to represent Wright Tree Service professionally.
- Ability to lift, move, and handle weights up to 50 pounds occasionally and 30 pounds frequently.
- Willingness to work extended hours and overtime during emergencies, including weekends and holidays.
- Competent in operating and maintaining all necessary tools and equipment.
- Possession of a valid driver's license and ability to pass a pre-employment drug screening.
- Maintenance of a herbicide applicator or operator certification as required by Wright Tree Service and applicable laws.
- Valid First-Aid and CPR certifications are required.
