POSITION: Medical Sales Executive Madrid

Territory: Madrid, Toledo, Ciudad Real, Cáceres, Segovia, Cuenca, Avila, Guadalajara.

Position Overview

The role of Medical Sales Executive is part of our Infectious Diseases Business Unit at Abbott Rapid Diagnostics Healthcare SL Spain. Reporting to the sales manager of the Infectious Diseases division, the primary goal is to effectively promote and sell infectious disease products and services by leveraging product knowledge and fostering strong relationships with clients within a designated territory. The objective is to convert business opportunities into successful sales with both public and private sector clients, achieving or surpassing sales targets aligned with the commercial strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain and expand the existing customer base while identifying new strategic market segments.
  • Proactively pursue and manage new sales leads, ensuring a robust sales pipeline.
  • Evaluate customer requirements to ensure key clients remain engaged with our offerings.
  • Conduct regular visits to both existing and prospective clients, focusing on strategic market segments.
  • Lead demonstration and application activities as necessary.
  • Adopt a collaborative approach with clients to develop tailored solutions.
  • Close sales to meet revenue objectives within the assigned territory.
  • Continuously monitor market trends and competitor activities, providing valuable insights to marketing and sales leadership.
  • Anticipate frequent travel (up to 80% of the time) within the designated area.
  • Identify and engage potential clients, building long-term relationships to drive future sales growth.
  • Respond to inquiries from clients, particularly key opinion leaders.
  • Organize and facilitate customer meetings to effectively communicate our value proposition.
  • Utilize sales tools and resources to effectively convey messages to clients.
  • Provide market intelligence to marketing and sales management, including customer feedback and competitor insights.
  • Implement the annual sales plan for the territory and participate in regular business reviews.

Additional Expectations

  • Deliver regular reports to the Sales Department, contributing to accurate sales forecasts.
  • Develop tailored sales strategies for each client, engaging stakeholders at all levels.
  • Collaborate with local teams (scientific liaison, marketing, sales management, application specialists) on key customer projects.
  • Install equipment at client locations and provide training to new users.
  • Prioritize strategic accounts and work with local teams to secure and maintain them.
  • Demonstrate product knowledge and expertise through mandatory recertification processes.
  • Participate in relevant congresses and events within the assigned region and occasionally at international events.
  • Work with sales support teams to ensure effective management of tenders, quotations, and contracts.
  • Uphold the company's image, including that of other Abbott divisions.
  • Perform duties in accordance with established business policies and procedures.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's degree or equivalent in Biological Sciences or a related field.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in the industry (diagnostics, point of care, medical devices), ideally with 5 years in a sales role.
  • Demonstrated success in a commercial environment with a strong customer focus.
  • In-depth knowledge of the in-vitro diagnostic industry, particularly in infectious diseases; experience in point-of-care biology is advantageous.
  • Proven ability to work effectively with key opinion leaders and decision-makers in the region.
  • Familiarity with the diagnostic industry and a comprehensive understanding of the healthcare market in the territory.
  • Good conversational English skills (minimum CEF B1).
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
