Job Summary

Vertex Pharmaceuticals is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Commercial Associate Director to lead the Haematology business in Spain. As a key member of the Country leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and implementing the commercial strategy for Haematology in Spain, aligning with the International Commercial strategic objectives.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Commercial Strategy Development: Develop and implement the country commercial strategy for Haematology in Spain, ensuring alignment with the International Commercial strategic objectives.
  2. Team Leadership: Lead the commercial Haematology field team, shaping and building the Haematology organization by hiring and setting the country vision.
  3. Market Understanding: Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of key physicians and haematology centres to ensure that their needs are being met and that their business is retained.
  4. Product Launch: Launch Vertex's first investigational genetic therapy for hemoglobinopathies (sickle cell disease - SCD and transfusion-dependent beta thalassemia - TDT) in Spain.
  5. Authorized Treatment Centres: Lead the identification and activation of Authorized Treatment Centres (ATCs) at the country level.
  6. Market Intelligence: Maintain an awareness of external factors (including competitors, government business initiatives, current and proposed legislation in relation to commercial activities) which impact the Haematology business.
  7. Strategic Partnerships: Partner with VP of International Haematology, IHQ Commercial haem team, and international functional leads to shape the international Haem strategy and brand life-cycle activities.
  8. Access and Reimbursement: Contribute to the access and reimbursement strategy in the country.
  9. Customer Engagement: Ensure that regular reviews are carried out with customers, to ensure that their needs are being met and that excellent customer service is achieved, and developing future improvements/services for the customers.
  10. Business Development: Represent the company externally e.g., at networking events, conferences, and exhibitions to enhance and strengthen the company's profile and optimize all business development opportunities.
  11. Performance Management: Ensure that all Haematology commercial activities meet or improve on budget, revenue, cost, volume, and efficiency targets (Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)) in line with business objectives.
  12. Compliance: Implement company policies and procedures ensuring 100% compliance at all times.
Requirements
  1. Leadership Experience: Strong leadership skills with a robust people leadership track record and significant experience in the biotech industry dealing with Haematology and/or rare diseases.
  2. Commercial Experience: Proven commercial launch/in-market experience of Cell and Gene Therapy, Haematology or rare disease including unlicensed medicines.
  3. Market Knowledge: Deep knowledge and understanding of the country healthcare market for Gene Therapies, Haematology or rare disease is required.
  4. Language Skills: Fluent in English.
  5. Compliance: Solid understanding of the compliance framework with a high level of integrity.
  6. Communication Skills: Good communication skills (written and verbal) at all levels and ability to influence at a senior level, both internally and externally.
  7. Business Acumen: Strong and successful background in sales and marketing or as a Business Unit lead.
  8. Results Orientation: Results driven and passionate about achieving high levels of excellence.
  9. Customer Focus: Customer focused with the ability to oversee generation of insights and apply those insights to business problems/opportunities and make strategic recommendations.
  10. Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability to develop strategy, make strategic recommendations, and monitor performance.
  11. Learning Agility: Strong learning agility & expert negotiating and influencing skills.
  12. Analytical Skills: Numerate with strong analytical and problem-solving ability, attention to detail.
  13. Project Management: Excellent project management skills with a strong ability to prioritize.
  14. Education: Bachelor's degree in life science, business or marketing.
