Job Title: Commercial Associate Director Haematology

Job Summary:

Vertex is seeking a highly experienced Commercial Associate Director to lead the Haematology business in Spain. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing the commercial strategy for the Haematology business at the country level, working closely with the Country General Manager and the International Heme Operating Committee.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the country commercial strategy for the Haematology business in alignment with the International Commercial strategic objectives
  • Lead the commercial Haematology field team and shape the Haematology organization by hiring and setting the country vision
  • Understand the value drivers of Vertex and lead the business to identify profitable commercial opportunities to grow revenue and market share
  • Launch Vertex's first investigational genetic therapy for hemoglobinopathies (sickle cell disease - SCD and transfusion-dependent beta thalassemia - TDT) in Spain
  • Develop and maintain an excellent understanding of key physicians and haematology centres to ensure their needs are met and their business is retained
  • Lead the identification and activation of Authorized Treatment Centres (ATCs) at the country level
  • Maintain an awareness of external factors that impact the Haematology business, including competitors, government business initiatives, and current and proposed legislation
  • Champion and lead each new product or service development from innovation through to successful implementation across each business function
  • Develop and execute multiple digital and educational campaigns for the SCD & TDT patient and HCP communities
  • Partner with the VP of International Haematology, IHQ Commercial haem team, and international functional leads to shape the international Haem strategy and brand life-cycle activities
  • Contribute to the access and reimbursement strategy in the country
  • Ensure regular reviews are carried out with customers to ensure their needs are met and excellent customer service is achieved
  • Represent the company externally at networking events, conferences, and exhibitions to enhance and strengthen the company's profile and optimize business development opportunities
  • Ensure all Haematology commercial activities meet or improve on budget, revenue, cost, volume, and efficiency targets in line with business objectives
  • Implement company policies and procedures to ensure 100% compliance at all times

Requirements:

  • Strong leadership skills with a robust people leadership track record and significant experience in the biotech industry dealing with Haematology and/or rare diseases
  • Proven commercial launch/in-market experience of Cell and Gene Therapy, Haematology or rare disease including unlicensed medicines
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of the country healthcare market for Gene Therapies, Haematology or rare disease
  • Fluent in English
  • Solid understanding of the compliance framework with a high level of integrity
  • Capacity to lead and motivate people in a matrix organization
  • Innovative with entrepreneurial flair
  • Hands-on approach with a 'can-do' attitude
  • Ability to work in a highly dynamic and fast-growing organization with demonstrated capability to be at ease in a matrix structure with ability to influence

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in life science, business or marketing
  • Typically requires 8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry in sales, marketing or commercial excellence roles, including 2 years or more of experience in sales management and/or sales learning and development/coaching roles, and 2 years of supervisory/management experience, or the equivalent combination of education and experience

In this Hybrid-Eligible role, you can choose to be designated as:
1. Hybrid: work remotely up to two days per week; or select
2. On-Site: work five days per week on-site with ad hoc flexibility.
