The reconstruction will be forced by surface fluxes from the atmospheric reanalysis ERA5, and assimilate temperature and salinity fields from the ocean reanalysis GLORYSv12. Its evaluation will be performed against independent observational records. This research will contribute to the national project REACT, and the ERC-Consolidator Grant PREDDYCT **Key Duties** - Preprocessing the atmospheric forcing fields from ERA5 to match the target ocean grid (1/12°) - Conducting the ocean reconstruction - Evaluating the ocean reconstruction with several observational datasets **Requirements**: - Education - Being enrolled in a master degree in Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Physics, Meteorology or equivalent - Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience - Excellent coding skills in Python - Experience with UNIX/LINUX environments and scripting languages (bash,...) - Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience - Experience of version control in a distributed team, including SVN or Git will be valued - Previous experience in weather and climate sciences will be valued as well - Fluency in English - Competences - Capacity to interact and build strong relations with both climate and computer scientists - Good written and verbal communication skills - Ability to take initiatives prioritize tasks and work under set deadlines **Conditions** - The position will be located at BSC within the Earth Sciences Department - We offer a full-time contract (37.5h/week), a good working environment, a highly stimulating environment with state-of-the-art infrastructure, flexible working hours, extensive training plan, restaurant tickets, private health insurance, support to the relocation procedures - Duration: Open-ended contract due to technical and scientific activities linked to the project and budget duration - Holidays: 23 paid vacation days plus 24th and 31st of December per our collective agreement - Starting date: 01/04/2025 **Applications procedure and process** - A full CV in English including contact details - A cover/motivation letter with a statement of interest in English, clearly specifying for which specific area and topics the applicant wishes to be considered.
