In addition to accommodation, the hotel has rooms that we rent for all kinds of events, such as weddings, meetings and business events.

Regarding the hotel's gastronomy, we have a 2 Michelin star restaurant, a cocktail bar, indoor garden Mimosa and the pool terrace where you can enjoy light dinners or spectacular views.

The hotel Spa consists of 8 treatment rooms, indoor pool and gym.

About the job

Based at Mandarin Oriental, Barcelona, within the **Pastry Department**, the **Junior Sous Chef - Pastry** is responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the pastry department under the leadership and guidance of the Pastry Chef. The Junior Sous Chef - Pastry reports to the **Pastry Chef**.

As **Junior Sous Chef - Pastry**, you will be responsible for the following duties:

- Ensure the smooth operation of the pastry department under the leadership of the Pastry Chef.
- Supervise the preparation of pastries, cakes, pies, cookies, ice creams and sorbets.
- Supervise and coordinate pastry staff, ensuring exemplary hygiene, uniform and personal appearance standards.
- Check daily menus and function sheets for changes and inform the team accordingly.
- Plan daily and weekly production schedules to meet operational requirements.
- Ensure all kitchen outlets are sufficiently supplied.
- Prepare birthday and anniversary cakes.
- Research and develop new dessert recipes and techniques.
- Assist with food ordering within the Pastry department.
- Prepare afternoon teas.
- Follow hotel cost control policies.
- Ensure strict compliance with health, hygiene and safety standards.
- Participate in competitions, meetings and training sessions.
- Conduct departmental orientation for new team members.
- Liaise with the Training and Quality Assurance Manager on departmental training needs.
- Attend outside functions and charity events when required.
- Carry out annual appraisals of team members.
- Operate flexibly and carry out any other reasonable requests as directed by your manager.

As Junior Sous Chef - Pastry, we expect from you:

- Excellent pastry and hotel product knowledge.
- Highly responsible and reliable.
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced luxury environment.
- Strong team spirit and passion for learning in a multicultural setting.
- Guest-focused attitude, remaining calm and professional at all times.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a luxury hotel environment.
- Fluent English.

Health & Safety
- Comply with the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Company Health & Safety Manual.
- Follow Food Acts and hotel hygiene regulations.
- Wear appropriate protective clothing provided by the Hotel.
- Report any defects in the building, plant or equipment according to Hotel procedures.
- Ensure any accidents involving colleagues or guests are reported correctly.
- Attend statutory fire training every 6 months and any training deemed appropriate by your Head of Department.
