**The Housing Assessment Officer role**:
**Key duties and responsibilities of our Housing Assessment Officer**:

- Have operational responsibility for the assessment and special assessment process for applicants to the Housing Register
- Investigate and establish an applicant’s circumstances to enable an accurate first line priority decision to be made
- Ensure the effective administration and maintenance of the housing register by completing reviews within the published timescales or where other circumstances dictate
- Provide advice and guidance to applicants around their priority on the waiting list and other housing options which may be available to them, including the rationale for the decision
- Adopt and operate a proactive approach to preventing homelessness in conjunction with the council’s Housing Options, Advice and Homelessness Prevention Team
- Mitigate risk, ensure safeguarding and provide excellent service by making timely, full and accurate referrals to internal teams or partner services where appropriate
- Ensure that appeals are dealt with in line with the published appeals procedure

**What we’re looking for in our Housing Assessment Officer**:

- Level 4 / HNC qualification or relevant experience in a similar decision making role
- An awareness of current housing issues, including of housing law, policies and practice
- Ability to travel as necessary to meet the needs of the post
- Ability to prepare and present information concisely and clearly and adapt communication for a range of audiences
