About the Role

The Director of the Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING) is a key leadership position within the UK Research and Innovation organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the staff and operations of ING, ensuring the delivery of world-class astronomical research and development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Strategic Leadership: Provide vision and direction for the ING, aligning with the UK Research and Innovation's goals and objectives.
  • Staff Management: Recruit, retain, and develop high-quality staff, particularly in senior roles, to ensure the continued success of the ING.
  • Resource Allocation: Coordinate resources to optimize efficiency, operating within budget constraints to ensure the ING remains a leading player in astronomical research.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Maintain strong relationships with ING users, host communities, and international partners to ensure the continued success of the ING.
  • Communication: Develop and implement effective communication strategies to maintain a high profile for the ING, both nationally and internationally.

About the ING

The Isaac Newton Group of Telescopes (ING) is a world-leading astronomical research facility, located at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory in La Palma, Spain. The ING operates under the coordination of the UK Science and Technology Facilities Council (STFC), Nederlandse Organisatie voor Wetenschappelijk Onderzoek (NWO), and Instituto de Astrofísica de Canarias (IAC). The ING is home to the 4.2-meter William Herschel Telescope (WHT) and the 2.5-meter Isaac Newton Telescope (INT), both of which are undergoing enhancements to remain at the forefront of astronomical research.
