About this Opportunity

Cenovus is seeking students for an internship opportunity in process safety management. As a member of our team, you will have the chance to work alongside industry-leading professionals and gain valuable experience in a refining environment.

This internship is designed to provide students with hands-on work experience and the opportunity to develop skills in process safety management. You will be part of a collaborative team completing important projects and receiving mentorship and knowledge from experienced professionals.

Responsibilities
  • Perform daily safety procedure audits and inspections as needed
  • Assist in the delivery of contractor safety training
  • Support process safety management, including process hazard analysis, management of change, auditing, drawing updates, and other related tasks
  • Assist with the development of hazard management information system signs and labeling
  • Perform the annual respiratory protection program audit for the safety department
  • Engage with field personnel to understand operational challenges, provide support, and reinforce a strong safety culture
  • Foster positive and constructive interactions with field personnel to encourage reporting of safety concerns and ensure effective communication
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
  • Available to begin work on January 6, 2025
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
  • A valid US driver's license is required
  • Previous experience is considered an asset
  • A strong attitude for carrying out all work in a safe, cautious manner while following safe work practices
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Education
  • Must be enrolled in a chemical engineering or engineering undergraduate program at an accredited post-secondary institution at the time of intended work term and returning to full-time studies after the work term
  • Candidates currently enrolled in either a master's or Ph.D. program at an accredited post-secondary institution may also be considered
  • New graduates are not eligible for student opportunities
Working Conditions

This role may include frequency of travel, sitting, standing, computer work, lifting, driving, and working at site.

This is a safety-sensitive role, and as such, you will be required to wear all personal protective equipment during required work hours.

You will also be required to pass the Cenovus pre-employment medical and drug/alcohol assessment requirements.

Safety-sensitive positions require the operation of a motor vehicle. A valid US driver's license with no restrictions is a requirement for this role.
