Research Position in Time-Domain Astronomy

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join our team at the Institute of Cosmos Sciences at the Universitat de Barcelona. The successful candidate will be part of the ERC-funded project CET-3PO, focusing on the study of the common envelope phase in massive binaries via observations of luminous red novae (LRNe) transients.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support with target selection and observations
  • Application for telescope time
  • Development of data reduction pipelines
  • Data reduction tasks for photometry, spectroscopy, and polarization data
  • Multi-wavelength analysis using time-domain survey data for the transients of interest
Requirements:
  • MSc in astronomy or related field
  • Strong background in astrophysics and data analysis
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
What We Offer:
  • Full-time work contract (37.5 hrs/week)

Eligibility Criteria:
  • Grade point average of the academic transcripts from the applicant's bachelor's or master's degree studies

  • Suitability for the tasks to be performed within the framework of the research project
Selection Process:

A specific committee will evaluate the applications using the above criteria. The award proposal will be published in the UB's electronic office and must include the total scores of the candidates that have received at least five points.
