Staff Field Applications Scientist

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Proteomics Field Applications Scientist to join our team at Illumina. As a key member of our organization, you will play a critical role in driving customer success and expanding our presence in the European market.
Key Responsibilities- Customer Success: Partner with internal and external stakeholders to provide and support implementation, training, troubleshooting, and complaint resolution of Illumina's portfolio.
- Scientific Expertise: Serve as a scientific expert in pre- and post-sales activities across Europe, providing consultation on complex lab and experimental design, workflow implementation, and data analysis and storage.
- Business Development: Partner with Commercial sales stakeholders to develop and execute strategic plans for winning new business, expanding current customer install base, and ensuring customer and business success through consulting, workshops, presentations, demonstrations, and seminars.
- Project Management: Manage complex, large-scale customer workflow implementations/installations and assist with customer onboarding.
- Training and Development: Conduct on-site/virtual customer trainings for Illumina portfolio in area of expertise (Proteomics).
- Customer Relationship Management: Responsible for customer relationship management, understanding customer goals, setting appropriate product and performance expectations, and utilizing intelligence regarding competitive intel to remove barriers and identify new sales opportunities.
- Internal Collaboration: Support Illumina in making our customers the heroes and support internal stakeholders as subject matter expert to resolve customer complaints related to the Proteomics workflow.
- Product Development: Assist in customer elevations and utilize appropriate internal resources to resolve customer issue and manage customer expectations.
- Market Intelligence: Evaluate risk of technical updates and provide guidance to regional field teams to effectively plan and communicate changes to internal and external stakeholders to drive customer success.
- Leadership: Lead departmental project teams; create regional strategies and activities to address support needs. Ensure project goals are aligned with business/departmental objectives and work collaboratively to drive successful execution of project plans, track, manage, and communicate progress to team and stakeholders.
- Market Analysis: Participate and collaborate with Commercial function (Sales/Marketing/Support) to solicit competitive customer feedback, to understand competitor activities and innovations within the marketplace, and to incorporate market trends into strategy development.
- Mentorship: Demonstrate mentorship and coaching skills to junior members of the team and to colleagues.
- Professional Representation: Represent the company professionally, ethically, and morally at all times.
- Education: PhD in Molecular Biology or related scientific field or MS and some years of experience OR extensive work experience within biotechnology field.
- Proteomics Expertise: Excellent knowledge in proteomics and biomarker discovery.
- Lab Experience: Strong experience with hands-on work within a laboratory, molecular biology techniques, and general lab best practices, experience with Novaseq 6000 or Novaseq X is a plus.
- Liquid Handling Automation: Knowledge and experience in liquid handling automation systems.
- Genomics and Sequencing: Strong knowledge and experience of genomics, sequencing applications, and Illumina's technology.
- Proteomics Data Analysis: Experience in proteomics data analysis, previous experience with Partek software is a plus.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders at different levels both internally and externally.
- Interpersonal Skills: Outstanding written, verbal, presentation, and training skills, capable of conveying complex information with clarity.
- Problem-Solving Skills: Proven ability to resolve complex customer issues whilst maintaining positive customer relations.
- Analytical Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Customer Focus: Demonstrate a customer-first mindset to ensure customer success.
- Teamwork: Ability to work independently and collaborate within a team.

- Travel: Must be willing to travel up to 50-60% across Europe.
