Postdoctoral Researcher in Nanotechnology and Biomedicine

Overview of the Position:
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher to contribute to the innovative field of self-propelled nanobots aimed at advancing biomedical applications.
This role is part of the ERC Consolidator Grant project titled iNanoSwarms, which focuses on the exploration of collective behaviors of active nanoparticles, their cooperative dynamics, and their potential as drug delivery mechanisms. We are particularly interested in skilled and driven researchers with a background in nanomedicine, drug delivery systems, and nanoparticle technology. Our team possesses extensive expertise in nanomotors and active matter, and we are looking for an individual who can enhance our capabilities and lead various research initiatives or explore new avenues for applying nanobots in the biomedical sector. Relevant examples of our work can be found in recent publications.
Key Responsibilities:
• Synthesize, functionalize, and characterize both inorganic (e.g., mesoporous silica, gold nanoparticles, iron oxide nanoparticles) and organic (e.g., lipidic, polymeric, hydrogel-based) nanocarriers.
• Design and refine processes for drug loading into nanoparticles to create active smart drug delivery systems.
• Collaborate on the development of novel combinations of nanoparticles and therapeutic agents for biomedical applications.
• Conduct in vitro assessments of the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of action of drug-loaded nanobots in various biological settings.
• Mentor undergraduate, master's, and PhD students.
• Assist the Group Leader in securing funding through fellowships, grants, or projects.
• Lead a sub-team focused on nanobots for nano-biomedicine.
• Engage in communication and reporting within the group and with external partners.
• Actively contribute to the generation of new ideas that may lead to future projects and intellectual property development.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential Qualifications:
• PhD in pharmacy, chemistry, biotechnology, nanomedicine, biochemistry, or a related field.
• Proven experience in the synthesis and functionalization of biocompatible and biodegradable nanocarriers.
• Background in drug loading and delivery studies involving therapeutic small molecules.
• Familiarity with common characterization techniques (NMR, FTIR, DLS, Z-potential, GPC, HPLC, SEM, TEM, AFM, etc.).
• Proficiency in English.
• Strong publication record in nanomaterials, nanoparticles, and nanomedicine.
• Attributes: Communication skills, teamwork, proactivity, commitment, collegiality, integrity, critical thinking, and analytical skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with nanomotors, self-propelled particles, and active matter.
• Previous experience in supervising students.
• Demonstrated success in obtaining funding or competitive grants.
