Job Summary

Hargrove And Associates, Inc. is seeking an experienced Electrical Design Lead to join our team. As an Electrical Design Lead, you will be responsible for supervising and providing technical direction to a team of designers. You will be responsible for the delivery of electrical and instrumentation deliverables on time, within budget, and meeting quality expectations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the constructability, operability, and maintainability of the design within your discipline for assigned projects.
  • Provides comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective technical input into design related to your discipline for assigned projects.
  • Responsible for the preparation of detailed design drawings within your discipline, in accordance with engineering design, required as project deliverables.
  • Provides continual guidance to drafters within your discipline for assigned projects.
  • Communicates and coordinates with Lead Designer for respective discipline to promote smooth, accurate, and scheduled completion of deliverables.
  • Maintains and keeps organized a Job Data Book which contains all the pertinent information used during the design for your discipline for an assigned project.
  • Reviews drawings within your discipline for assigned projects on a regular basis for completeness, overall quality, and adherence to standards.
  • Ensures all drawings within your discipline for assigned projects have been properly checked and backchecked.
  • Prepares and/or directs the preparation of final drawing plots and copies for transmittal relative to all project deliverables.
  • Possesses an awareness of project schedule and budget.
  • Assists with Project Audits when required.
Requirements
  • Associate degree in Engineering Technology or Computer-Aided Drafting is required.
  • Certification is not required at this level.
  • 15 or more years of relevant industrial experience in electrical and instrumentation drafting and design.
  • Familiarity with the current version of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Ability to perform lighting level calculations.
  • Ability to size wire, conduit and overcurrent protection for both lighting and power applications.
  • Ability to perform voltage drop calculations.
  • Ability to route conduit and cable tray.
  • Ability to calculate tray and conduit fill.
  • Familiarity with specifications and installation details of construction bulk materials and equipment.
  • Ability to create accurate electrical installation documents from the information found on vendor equipment drawings.
  • Ability to determine load center unit substation loading.
  • Knowledge and understanding of work flow/information flow between disciplines.
  • Knowledge and understanding of schedule constraints and information requirements for the production of all electrical deliverables.
  • Ability to accurately estimate completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for 480VAC equipment such as, motor control centers, variable frequency drivers, induction and synchronous motors, load center unit substations, etc. with engineering review and approval.
  • Ability to produce a 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques both above and below ground.
  • Familiarity with 15kV power system equipment and installation techniques both above and below ground.
  • Ability to develop equipment specifications for 15kV/5kV equipment such as, switchgear, load break switches, motor control centers, etc. and capable of performing calculations for required short circuit and overcurrent protective device ratings with engineering review and approval.
  • Ability to develop electrical installation specifications with engineering review and approval.
  • Ability to develop a construction cost estimate, a detailed engineering schedule and a man-hour budget for a small project or an area for a larger project.
  • Developing design criteria and scope of work.
  • Forecasting hours to complete professional services.
  • Developing staffing plans based on deliverables to be produced and the project schedule.
  • Identifying information required and proactively obtaining it.
  • Coordinating with other disciplines regarding design development, changes, etc.
  • Knowledge and application of company engineering design and CAD drafting standards.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Working knowledge of 2D AutoCAD and Microstation.
  • Programming experience with Programmable Logic controller (PLC), Human Machine Interface (HMI), and/or Distributed Control System (DCS) equipment.
  • Ability to lead a small team to deliver on commitments.
  • Ability to coordinate with the process group to provide efficient equipment layouts and space usage.
  • Ability to deliver presentations of Hargrove Engineers & Constructors services.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are highly developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with no supervision.
