Recovery Specialist

We are seeking a highly skilled Recovery Manager to join our team at AIG. As a key member of our claims organization, you will be responsible for identifying and pursuing opportunities for recovery/subrogation/salvage at multiple Lines of Business and Products to maximize amounts received from third parties who are wholly responsible or share liability for damages paid to claimants by AIG.
Key Responsibilities- Proactively identify recovery opportunities and review assigned claim files to determine if recovery is feasible by investigating and evaluating liability issues according to best practices and procedural guidelines.
- Coordinate investigations with expert witnesses to review the adequacy of the investigation conducted by claims personnel.
- Correspond with appropriate parties regarding claim information, notice/demand of payment, and related issues.
- Research and apply state laws that relate to each file, keeping management advised of legislative, regulatory, and legal developments that may impact recovery results.
- Prepare activity reports on files over settlement authority and forecast potential recoveries, updating the recoverable amount as needed.
- Provide customer service assistance to outside organizations and AIG Claims Operation management.
- Prepare for and attend mediations or pretrial sessions, establishing and maintaining professional working relationships with insureds, claimants, witnesses, lawyers, and corporate employees.
- Develop and maintain good relationships with internal clients and identify, create, and complete recovery training for various lines of business as requested by your manager and stakeholders.
- Accurately identify and record all financial impact for cases worked in the case management system.
- Assist the Claims & Recovery management in ensuring key deliverables and business objectives are met, while being aware of and adhering to GDPR regulations and local laws regarding techniques used for information gathering in countries where operating.
- Complete targeted claims reviews for all lines of business within AIG as assigned, including analysis, documentation of results, and suggestions for improvement.
- Direct/implement negotiation strategies and, for large property recoveries, direct attorneys in managing agreed-to subrogation plans.
- Participate in training by providing information as a subject matter expert as requested and manage a recovery team, including more junior graded staff with control and supervision functionality.
- Support leadership team and stakeholders on result reporting.
- Relevant and extensive experience in either first-party and third-party claims subrogation or claims handling.
- Fluent in English.
- College degree preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrated insurance recovery experience or strong and relevant experience in general recovery.
- Strong analytical decision-making and problem-solving.
- Time management skills to manage and prioritize case load with limited supervision.
- Advanced knowledge of civil justice systems.
- Ability to organize data and write case investigative reports.
- Ability to alter workflow to create and pursue leads that would support a recovery case.
- Ability to work in tight timelines when necessary.
- Advanced working knowledge in specialty of insurance a plus.
- PC skills with various database search systems.
