Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Lead 3D Character Artist to join our team and contribute to our next exciting project. The ideal candidate will have a passion for creating diverse character assets and a strong background in game development and the character pipeline. As a Lead, you will work closely with designers, concept artists, technical artists, and animators to deliver an immersive and epic experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and mentor a team of artists, ensuring clear tasks, goals, and regular feedback.
  • Create high-quality character assets, from sculpting to implementation in the engine.
  • Partner with producers to delegate tasks, plan estimates, and arrange meetings to ensure manageable workloads and timely deliverables.
  • Work with clients to uphold their artistic vision and ensure technically sound and compliant work.
  • Collaborate with Tech Art and Engineering to ensure assets are functional and optimized for engine/platform constraints.
  • Help expand the Character Art team's capabilities through training, team building, process refinement, and candidate recruiting.
  • Explore opportunities to innovate, streamline tools, and champion best practices.
  • Engage in technical and aesthetic problem-solving efforts.
  • Represent the team's concerns and ensure discipline representation.
  • Contribute to recruiting talented artists and mentoring them through coaching and mentorship.
Requirements
  • 6+ years of experience in character art with 2+ years as a Lead Character Artist in game development using Unreal and/or Unity.
  • Expert knowledge of anatomy, form, silhouette design, and detail hierarchy.
  • Exceptional sculpting and poly modeling skills for organic and hard surface character assets.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of 3D and 2D packages (3DS Max or Maya, Zbrush, Photoshop, and Substance) and techniques for Characters, Creatures, and Costuming.
  • Demonstrated experience creating PBR textures and a strong understanding of the PBR texturing workflow.
  • Deep technical knowledge of modern pipelines, workflows, and techniques for developing characters with clean topology.
  • Passionate about mentoring others and managing a world-class character art team.
  • Excellent organization, time management, and communication skills.
  • Great team spirit and proactive attitude.
