Postdoctoral Position in Nanomedicine Research

Overview of the Position:
The Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) is seeking a dedicated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our Smart Nano-Bio-Devices Research Group. This role focuses on the innovative development of self-propelled nanobots aimed at advancing translational strategies in biomedicine.
This position is part of the ERC Consolidator Grant project titled iNanoSwarms, which investigates the collective behavior of active nanoparticles, their cooperative dynamics, and their potential applications in drug delivery systems. We are particularly interested in candidates who possess a strong background in nanomedicine, drug delivery, and nanoparticles, and who can enhance our existing expertise or lead new research initiatives in the application of nanobots within the biomedical field. Recent publications from our group provide examples of nanobot applications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Synthesize, functionalize, and characterize various inorganic (e.g., mesoporous silica, gold nanoparticles, iron oxide nanoparticles) and organic (e.g., lipidic, polymeric, hydrogel-based) nanocarriers.
- Design and optimize processes for drug loading into nanoparticles to create active smart drug delivery systems.
- Contribute to the development of novel combinations of nanoparticles and therapeutic agents for biomedical applications.
- Conduct in vitro evaluations of the therapeutic effects and mechanisms of action of drug-loaded nanobots in diverse biological environments.
- Mentor undergraduate, master's, and PhD students.
- Assist the Group Leader in securing funding through fellowships, grants, or projects.
- Lead a sub-team focused on nanobots for nano-biomedicine.
- Engage in communication and reporting within the group and with external partners.
- Proactively develop new ideas that may lead to future projects and intellectual property generation.
Candidate Requirements:
Essential Qualifications:
- PhD in pharmacy, chemistry, biotechnology, nanomedicine, biochemistry, or a related field.
- Experience in the synthesis and functionalization of biocompatible and biodegradable nanocarriers.
- Knowledge of drug loading and delivery methodologies involving therapeutic small molecules.
- Familiarity with common characterization techniques (e.g., NMR, FTIR, DLS, Z-potential, GPC, HPLC, SEM, TEM, AFM, spectroscopy).
- Proficient in English.
- A strong publication record in nanomaterials, nanoparticles, and nanomedicine.
- Skills in communication, teamwork, proactivity, commitment, collegiality, integrity, and critical thinking.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with nanomotors, self-propelled particles, and active matter.
- Previous experience in supervising students.
- Demonstrated success in acquiring funding or competitive grants.
