Your MissionThe Institut Josep Carreras (IJC) is a distinguished non-profit research organization located in Barcelona, dedicated to enhancing the understanding of leukemia and related disorders. Collaborating closely with the University of Barcelona and the Autonomous University of Barcelona, IJC operates across five key locations, serving as a hub for both basic researchers and clinicians to collaborate on critical clinical and biological aspects of leukemia. The IJC fosters an exceptional work environment that merges cutting-edge ideas with advanced facilities. We are currently seeking a Laboratory Technician to join our Single Cell Unit.
Research Overview
The Single Cell Unit provides scientific and technological support for high-level research initiatives in the field of single-cell genomics, assisting researchers from experimental design through to data analysis. Equipped with the latest technologies, this unit has significantly advanced research across various domains, including hematological cancers and oncology, among others.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist with internal and external single-cell DNA, RNA, and spatial transcriptomics projects.
  • Conduct quality control tests on samples, including viability assessments.
  • Utilize dead cell removal kits effectively.
  • Prepare histological sections for spatial transcriptomics and imaging.
  • Execute nuclei extraction protocols for single-cell experiments.
  • Prepare sequencing libraries using various single-cell platforms.
  • Perform quality control on generated libraries to ensure sequencing suitability.
  • Manage the storage of sequencing libraries.
  • Oversee the workflow for sending prepared libraries to external sequencing laboratories.
  • Maintain comprehensive records of all processes within the unit.
  • Manage laboratory inventory and supplies.
  • Draft laboratory protocols in compliance with ISO standards.
  • Update and optimize existing protocols as per vendor recommendations.
  • Implement new protocols relevant to the research group.
Your Profile
  • A degree in Biology or a related field.
  • A Master's degree in Biomedical Sciences is advantageous.
  • A PhD in Biomedicine or a related area is a plus.
  • Experience in single-cell genomic and transcriptomic research is preferred.
  • Familiarity with spatial transcriptomics.
  • Experience with next-generation sequencing (NGS) techniques.
  • Proficiency in NGS library preparation, particularly for single-cell applications.
  • Background in cell culture techniques.
  • Experience with nuclei extraction protocols.
  • Knowledge of databases and genomic analysis tools.
  • Basic bioinformatics skills related to NGS and single-cell analysis.
  • Familiarity with fundamental molecular techniques such as DNA and RNA extraction, PCR, etc.
  • Proficient in standard office software (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, etc.).
  • Strong skills in molecular and cellular biology techniques.
  • Excellent collaborative and communication skills, with the ability to adapt to diverse laboratory environments.
  • Good command of English, both spoken and written.
