Role Responsibilities:

The Finance Manager plays a pivotal role within the Operations team at RMIT Europe, a distinct legal entity under one of Australia's largest universities.

This position ensures compliance with all financial accounting, taxation, and governance standards for the University’s taxation, management, and statutory reports. Additionally, the role involves overseeing daily accounting operations and reporting for RMIT Europe, ensuring that Central Finance at RMIT University receives accurate and timely financial information.

The Finance Manager is tasked with presenting quarterly financial updates to the RMIT Europe Board and managing payroll processes. This role also encompasses the financial oversight of a portfolio of EU-funded projects, supported by two Finance Officers. A hands-on approach, a proactive attitude, adaptability to change, and strong communication skills are essential for success in this position. Attention to detail, critical thinking, and creative problem-solving abilities are also crucial.

  • Extensive experience in financial and tax management, including statutory reporting within a global organization.
  • Strong numerical and analytical capabilities, coupled with in-depth knowledge of Spanish accounting standards and practices.
  • Demonstrated integrity and confidentiality in handling sensitive information.
  • Experience managing financial aspects of EU-funded research initiatives.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, and customer service skills, with the ability to engage effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • High proficiency in both written and verbal communication in Spanish and English, with the ability to interact tactfully at all organizational levels.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a team and independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong analytical skills to navigate complex issues and implement logical solutions, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office applications. Familiarity with Workday is a plus.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Preparation of financial and management reports for various stakeholders, including regulatory and compliance guidance.
  • Management of month-end processes, including accruals, salary postings, and transactional activities such as billing and accounts management.
  • Reconciliation of all company accounts and timely correction of discrepancies.
  • Timely reporting of Profit and Loss, Cash Flow, Balance Sheet, Capex, Headcount, and Taxes.
  • Ensuring compliance with local government reporting requirements and tax obligations through collaboration with external tax specialists.
  • Budget preparation, including scenario modeling and timely data provision to the University.
  • Financial modeling and advisory for complex projects, including management of revenue and inter-company transactions.
  • Oversight of financial management for EU-funded research projects, including official reporting to the European Commission and leading audits.
  • Driving the enhancement of financial processes and procedures at RMIT Europe.
  • Additional responsibilities as directed by the Executive Director and Associate Director, Planning and Resources.
