About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Breeder to join our team at Enza Zaden. As a key member of our Tomato breeding department, you will be responsible for developing competitive tomato varieties that meet our long-term vision.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Develop Breeding Plans: Translate breeding targets into operational and tactical breeding plans, and proactively adjust breeding goals across local breeding programs to align with our crop strategy.
  2. Oversee Breeding Projects: Manage the activities of breeding projects, ensuring they are executed efficiently and effectively.
  3. Implement FAIR Principles: Facilitate the adoption of FAIR principles in data records by breeders, ensuring that creation, update, process, and curation of detailed data records are understood and followed.
  4. Organize Data Analysis: Steer colleagues on data-driven breeding approaches, coaching and motivating them to exchange knowledge and material.
  5. Implement Technology and Traits: Implement developed technology and traits in the breeding program, staying up-to-date with the latest technologies and modern breeding techniques.
  6. Participate in Decision-Making: Actively participate in decision-making to advance varieties, plan productions, and screen trials as a member of a Product Advancement Team.
  7. Handover Advanced Varieties: Handover advanced varieties material to Seed Production according to defined specifications and register in designated countries.
  8. Collaborate with Commercial Teams: Proactively cooperate with commercial teams on joint market visits to obtain information on market trends and direction for product models and align the Enza message.
Requirements
  • Higher professional education (HBO, Bachelor)
  • 7+ years of experience in plant breeding, with experience in row field crops a plus
  • Thorough knowledge of plant breeding, modern methods of breeding including quantitative genetics and phytopathology
  • Strong organizational and management skills
  • A thorough understanding of English, both verbal and written
  • Travel will be required (International/Domestic)
  • You can work under intense weather conditions
  • Must possess a valid driver's license
