Overview: The Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2) is dedicated to achieving excellence in the fields of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology. Project Description: The NanoElectrocatalysis Group integrates electrochemical techniques, materials science, and advanced in situ characterization to uncover design principles for novel electrocatalyst materials. These materials are pivotal for renewable energy conversion and the synthesis of sustainable fuels and chemicals. The selected candidate will engage in the characterization of functional electrocatalysts and explore the molecular pathways for the electrochemical activation of methane, transforming it into methanol and other valuable products.
Main Responsibilities:
- Utilize classical electrochemical methods alongside in situ characterization techniques, including infrared and Raman spectroscopy, as well as synchrotron-based structural analysis.
- Investigate the relationship between structure and properties of electrocatalyst materials, focusing on the mechanisms of electrocatalytic oxidation reactions.
- Develop methodologies for real-time detection of intermediates and products during electrocatalytic processes.
- Collaborate with both internal teams and international research institutions.
- Conduct independent research under supervision, author scientific publications, and present findings at international conferences.
Qualifications:
- Education: PhD in electrochemistry or a related field.
- Experience: Proven background in electrocatalysis and in situ spectroscopy, with a strong publication record as a lead author.
- Skills: Familiarity with materials characterization techniques, gas chromatography, and synchrotron X-ray methods is advantageous.
- Personal Attributes: Excellent communication skills in English, both written and spoken, along with the ability to develop experimental methods and work effectively in a collaborative international environment.
