The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is seeking a highly motivated Postdoctoral Researcher to join our team in the NanoElectrocatalysis and Sustainable Chemistry group. We are looking for a talented researcher to work on the development of novel electrocatalyst materials for the conversion and storage of renewable energy.

Description of Group/Project:The NanoElectrocatalysis Group combines electrochemistry, materials science, and in situ characterization at the atomic scale to elucidate design principles for the discovery and development of novel electrocatalyst materials. We offer a stimulating working environment in a vibrant, interdisciplinary, and international research setting. The successful candidate will work on the characterization of functional electrocatalyst materials and investigate the molecular mechanisms for the direct electrochemical methane activation and conversion into methanol and other valuable chemicals.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:- Combine classical electrochemical methods with in situ characterization techniques such as infrared and Raman spectroscopy and synchrotron-based structural characterization methods.
- Investigate the structure-property relations of electrocatalyst materials and the mechanism of electrocatalytic oxidation reactions.
- Develop electrochemical and in situ characterization methods and setups for the real-time detection of intermediates and products during electrocatalytic reactions.
- Collaborate with other groups at ICN2 and foreign research institutions.
- Carry out independent research under supervision, write scientific papers for publication in peer-reviewed journals, and disseminate research findings in international conferences.
- PhD in electrochemistry or a related field.
- Work experience in electrocatalysis and in situ spectroscopy, with relevant publications in electrochemistry and electrocatalysis as a lead author.
- Knowledge and experience in materials characterization, gas chromatography, and synchrotron X-ray-based techniques for the characterization of electrocatalytic reactions.
- Excellent communication skills, written and spoken English, and ability to develop experimental electrochemical and spectroscopic methods.
- Full-time work (37.5 hours/week).
- Temporary contract.
- Location: Bellaterra (Barcelona).
- Salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience.
