The Barcelona Institute for Global Health (ISGlobal) is a cutting-edge institute addressing global public health challenges through research, translation into policy and education. ISGlobal has a broad portfolio in communicable and non-communicable diseases including environmental and climate determinants, and applies a multidisciplinary scientific approach ranging from the molecular to the population level. Research is organized in five programs: Climate, Air Pollution, Nature and Urban Health; Environment and Health over the Lifecourse; Global Viral and Bacterial Infections; Malaria and Neglected Parasitic Diseases and Maternal Child and Reproductive Health. ISGlobal is accredited with the Severo Ochoa distinction, a seal of excellence of the Spanish Science Ministry.
The overall goal of the Malaria Physiopathology and Genomics group at ISGlobal is to contribute to developing new tools for the control and eventual elimination of malaria through understanding key physiopathological events of malaria in children and pregnant women. To this end, the team combines genomics, epidemiology, molecular biology, immunology, and clinical medicine to study parasite and host factors influencing malaria infections.

**What We Are Looking for**:

- the GenMoz project. S/he will be also responsible for the project management and harmonization of procedures in our labs in Spain and Mozambique, coordination of team’s laboratory activities and mentoring of students/staff.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Coordination of malaria genomics/NGS activities of the Malaria Physiopathology & Genomics group.
- Coordination of general laboratory activities at the Malaria Physiopathology & Genomics group.
- Supervision and/or mentoring of PhD and Master students at ISGlobal and CISM.

**SPECIFIC DUTIES**:

- Supervision of malaria genomic surveillance activities in the context of GenMoz project at both ISGlobal and CISM in Mozambique.
- Planning of genomic analysis for other projects with participation of the team and requiring genomic services.
- Data analysis activities including validation of routine genomic outputs, preparation of databases and development of analytical plans.
- Budget preparation and follow up.
- Publication curation and entry into databases.
- Workplans of laboratory technicians, data scientists and PhD students.
- Development and/or revision of experimental plans and results discussions.
- Development of protocols and their correct implementation.
- Writing of results reports.
- Lead weekly coordination meetings with ISGlobal team.
- Written and oral interactions with partner insitutions, project PIs and project managers, including meetings organization.
- Organization of trainings for visiting researchers and junior researchers at ISGlobal (in collaboration with laboratory technicians and project assistant), as well as workshops or lectures, as assigned.
- Interaction with partners (CISM-Mozambique, UCSF-USA, IDM-USA, Sanger-UK, NMCP-Mozambique) for training and harmonization purposes.
- Regular reporting to PI.
- Help students in the choice and development of research topics at CISM and ISGlobal.
- Guide and support students progress at CISM and ISGlobal.
- Support in scientific writing of manuscripts and other documents

**LANGUAGE LEVEL**:

- Fluent written and oral English.
- Knowledge of Portuguese.
- Knowledge of Catalan and Spanish will be an asset

- Contract: Full-time
