Role Overview
The English Language Learning (ELL) division of Pearson is looking for a talented and motivated professional to join our growing organization as a Team Lead - Software Engineer.
In this exciting role, you will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and coaching your team members. You will also be responsible for analysis, design, implementation, and automated testing as a key member of a high-performing team. You will understand the needs of our users and work closely as a mentor, reviewing their work and supporting them to produce their best work across various areas, including assessment delivery, scoring technology and services, infrastructure, identity management, and e-commerce.
The Team
This position is on a team that develops and maintains client and candidate-facing web, desktop, and mobile assessment delivery and automated scoring solutions that serve a global user base. We deliver and score millions of language assessments annually across a wide range of industries.
We are looking for passionate and driven leaders and technologists who flourish in a highly collaborative environment where they can think creatively, challenge the status quo, lead the change, and innovate both products and processes.
The Team Lead - Software Engineer will:
Mentor and train team members with a continuous improvement mindset.
Own the performance and career management of the team.
Ensure on-time and high-quality delivery of the project/product commitments.
Work in an agile engineering team writing maintainable and scalable code.
Analyse, design, develop, and test software components for one of the largest digital assessment providers in the world.
Implement designs following Pearson coding standards and industry best practices.
Create testable code and implement automated unit, integration, and functional tests.
Collaborate with stakeholders to design, develop, test, and launch impactful software.
Independently clarify technical requirements and assess development estimates.
Review the code of other team members and provide constructive feedback.
Monitor performance indicators of applications and make continuous improvements.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent technology discipline.
Minimum of 6 years of experience in Software Engineering with at least 2 years in leading engineering teams.
Experience developing complex software systems delivered to customers.
Extensive professional software development experience in an Agile environment.
Proven track record of experience with customer-facing Web Application design/development.
A high-quality bar; unit testing, code reviews, test automation tools, continuous integration & deployment.
Experience using AWS technologies at scale in a production environment.
Knowledge of application servers, SOA, automation tools, and build tools.
Experience with HTTP/2, PWA, Serverless, Microservices, CI/CD, and cross-platform development.
Strong business and technical vision.
