The challenge
We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to rebuild the data layer of one of idealista's core verticals from the ground up. This isn't maintenance work: it means redesigning data models, analytics, domain objects, and integrations on a modern architecture. You'll work within an established team, with real technical ownership over data decisions.
About the team
You'll join the Seeker segment, a group of multidisciplinary teams working together to shape one of idealista's most strategic products. Your day-to-day will involve close collaboration with engineers, product managers, and other specialists across multiple teams, contributing to shared technical decisions and driving initiatives that go beyond the scope of a single squad. Together, you'll help build the next generation of our platform, with the scale, ambition, and impact of one of Europe's leading proptech companies.
What you'll do
- Redesign the vertical's data model: entities, relationships, events, and metrics. Think in terms of domain, not just tables.
- Design and implement ingestion, transformation, and serving pipelines using dbt and columnar/OLAP databases.
- Define and enforce data governance practices: ownership, lineage, asset cataloging, naming standards, and quality policies (freshness, completeness, accuracy).
- Integrate heterogeneous sources (APIs, relational databases, events) by designing clear data contracts between teams.
- Collaborate with product and backend teams to understand what data they need and why, and translate that into robust models and pipelines.
- Document from day one: modeling decisions, contracts, standards.
What you need
- Advanced SQL: CTEs, window functions, query optimization over large volumes. This is your primary tool.
- Experience with transformation frameworks like dbt or equivalent.
- Data modeling: dimensional, Data Vault, or both. You can articulate when to use which approach.
- Familiarity with modern data architectures: lakehouse, medallion, ELT. You understand the \"why\", not just the \"how\".
- Python or JVM (Java/Kotlin) for pipeline or data service development.
- Git and comfort with the command line.
- 5+ years of experience in data engineering or related roles.
- Experience working alongside product/backend teams, not only within data silos.
Nice to have
- Experience with ClickHouse or other columnar/OLAP databases.
- Familiarity with Oracle as an operational database.
- Experience with object storage (S3 or equivalent).
- Hands-on use of metadata catalog tools such as DataHub or similar.
- Experience with data observability tools and practices.
- Event-driven architectures (Kafka or equivalent).
- Domain knowledge in marketplaces or real estate.
Skills we value
- You know how to do technical discovery with business and product stakeholders: understanding what they need and why, not just taking requirements at face value.
- You communicate modeling decisions to non-technical audiences without losing rigor.
- You spot repetitive tasks and automate them.
- You have a documentation mindset: if it's not written down, it doesn't exist.
What we offer
- This is a fully remote position, but if you enjoy working from the office, you'll always be welcome at our headquarters in the heart of Madrid or at one of our collaborative workspaces.
- You'll keep learning—we mean it. Our platform is const
