- The Barcelona Supercomputing Center - Centro Nacional de Supercomputación (BSC-CNS) is the leading supercomputing center in Spain. It houses MareNostrum, one of the most powerful supercomputers in Europe, was a founding and hosting member of the former European HPC infrastructure PRACE (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), and is now hosting entity for EuroHPC JU, the Joint Undertaking that leads large-scale investments and HPC provision in Europe. In our pursuit, we focus on a wide range of key societal research areas such as Population and Household changes, Democratic Quality, Social Media, Public Opinion and Political Communication, Equity and Welfare in Education and Labor Market, tlegal systems and Legislation, Social-Ecology, Science of Science, and History, Archeology and Cultural Heritage. Employing a mixed of advanced statistical models, AI/Machine Learning, Large Language Models (LLMs), Agent-Based Modeling (ABM), Social Network Analysis (SNA), high-performance computational methods are applied to a wide range of large datasets from official statistics, surveys, social media, news, laws, historical archives, current data archives, archaeology data, citizens' volunteered and web-scraping data, and public administration and industry data.

As a research engineer and data scientist, you will help define the technological strategy and innovation efforts to support and enhance the organization’s research activities. This role involves collaborating with researchers, managing technological infrastructure, ensuring data security, and driving the adoption of cutting-edge technologies to advance the organization's research goals. You will thus play a pivotal role in facilitating the researchers’ work, working closely with the Research units at CSSH and reporting to the program’s director, Dr. Mercè Crosas.

**Key Duties**
- Interlocution with researchers and public administrations to identify needs and define strategies for data collection, management and analysis.
- Implementation of automatization and data integration processes.
- Data validation, analysis and visualization.
- Technological suport and development of project implementation tools and add-ons that can adapt to the changing nature of research projects.
- Design of data flow management system, and quality control. Responsible for the efficiency of the technological tools used in various research projects of the CSSH area (implementation and tool assessment).**Requirements**:

- Education
- BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or similar
- MSc in related field (CS, Technology, Innovation, etc.)
- Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Extensive hands-on experience with Python and AI Tools
- Minimum 5 years of experience in IT management within a research or academic environment
- Proven track record of leading technology initiatives and managing IT infrastructure.
- Strong understanding of research processes and the specific technology needs of researchers.
- Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience
- Experience with programming languages other than Python
- Experience working in research environments
- Fluency in English. Spanish and other European languages would be advantageous.

- Good communication skills for effective collaboration with researchers and other research engineers and data scientists.
- Good relational skills to be able to detect and understand data-related needs both in projects and the public administration
