Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing (UC). We are actively seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in automation and operations. As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high‑availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock exclusively for EU customers. For more information, see our blog: Oversee the launch of ESC in 2025, working closely with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology.Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day‑to‑day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of ESC services.Participate in “on‑call” rotations to resolve incidents out of hours and support 24x7 operational excellence.Identify operational anomalies, craft actionable bug reports, and provide constructive feedback on change‑management documents.Engage in development and testing of scripts to provide practical solutions for workflow optimization.Serve as an educator, sharing insights on the complexities of ESC with service teams and fostering a culture of mutual understanding.Qualifications National of an EU member state; must reside in the EU.Fluency in written and spoken English.Experience in systems engineering with hardware, software, networking, and operating systems.Proficiency scripting in Bash, Python, or Ruby.Solid understanding of Linux and networking, able to troubleshoot and anticipate performance and reliability issues.Ability to lead the creation, revision, and improvement of standard operational procedures (SOPs) and to drive operational best practices.Preferred Qualifications Experience with monitoring frameworks (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic or similar).Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross‑organizational strategic efforts.Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud systems.Experience operating 24x7 high‑availability, distributed software applications and performance tuning.Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible or similar).Basic Qualifications Experience scripting processes in Bash, Python, or Ruby.Solid understanding of Linux and networking, able to troubleshoot performance, reliability, availability.Lead creation and revision of SOPs and drive best practices.Amazon is an equal opportunities employer.
