Systems Engineer, ESC Managed OperationsJoin to apply for the Systems Engineer, ESC Managed Operations role at Amazon Web Services (AWS) .OverviewAWS is set to launch the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), a major development in utility computing. We seek experienced systems engineers with automation and operations expertise to build and lead operations and development teams delivering high‑availability AWS services such as EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock exclusively for EU customers.ResponsibilitiesOversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating closely with global AWS teams and influencing the evolution of AWS services and technology.Contribute to day‑to‑day operations, improving availability, reliability, latency, performance and efficiency.Participate in on‑call rotations to resolve incidents occurring out of hours.Engage in development and testing of scripts to provide practical solutions.Educate and share knowledge with service teams about the European Sovereign Cloud.Maintain 24x7 on‑call responsibility, root‑cause issues, and ensure system resilience.Eligibility RequirementsFluency in written and spoken English.Must be a national of an EU member state and reside in the EU.Amazon will provide relocation support within the European Union.Participation in an on‑call rota.Basic QualificationsNational of an EU member state.Expertise in systems engineering (hardware, software, networking, operating systems).Experience scripting (Bash, Python, Ruby).Solid understanding of Linux, networking, and troubleshooting.Ability to lead creation, revision, and improvement of SOPs and operational best practices.Preferred QualificationsExperience with monitoring frameworks (CloudWatch, Datadog, Grafana, Elastic).Experience mentoring junior engineers and leading cross‑organizational teams.Experience supporting services in AWS or other cloud systems.Experience operating 24x7, high‑availability, distributed applications and performance tuning.Experience with Infrastructure as Code (CDK, CloudFormation, Puppet, Chef, Ansible).Equal Opportunity StatementAmazon is an equal‑opportunity employer.
