Job Description

Role Overview

Pearson, a leading education company, is seeking an experienced and result-driven Engineering Manager with a strong technical background in Frontend Web development to lead our Frontend team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Technical Leadership: Lead a team of Frontend engineers by example, setting high standards for code quality, performance, and best practices.
  2. Team Management: Foster a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration within the Frontend engineering team. Mentor and coach team members.
  3. Product Development: Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define and execute the Frontend product roadmap.
  4. Architecture and Design: Drive the design and architecture of Frontend applications, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and security.
  5. Code Reviews and Quality Assurance: Conduct regular code reviews and implement best practices for code quality and test coverage.
  6. Innovation: Stay at the forefront of Frontend development, identifying opportunities to leverage emerging technologies.
  7. Recruitment: Collaborate with HR and talent acquisition teams to identify, hire, and onboard top-tier Frontend engineering talent.
  8. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with engineering leaders from other teams to ensure seamless integration.
  9. Performance Management: Set clear performance expectations, conduct performance reviews, and provide feedback to team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Proven experience as a software engineer with a focus on Frontend development.
  • Strong technical skills in Frontend development, specifically.
  • Prior experience managing or leading a team of engineers.
  • Proficiency in modern software engineering best practices, tools, and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Prior experience with Agile ways of working.
  • Ability to build agile and high-performing teams.
  • Passion for education and a commitment to improving learning experiences.
  • Business and product mindedness.
  • A pragmatic approach to problem-solving.
  • Evident fluency in English.
