Role Overview

We are in search of a skilled and results-oriented Engineering Manager with a robust technical foundation in Frontend Web development to lead our Frontend team. This role is crucial to our objective of developing state-of-the-art educational web applications that enhance learner success. We seek a leader who merges technical acumen with a product-oriented and business-focused mindset.

This position will report to the Head of Engineering and function within the Technology team, unless otherwise determined by the Employer.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership: Guide a team of Frontend engineers by exemplifying high standards for code quality, performance, and best practices. Remain informed about the latest trends, tools, and technologies in Frontend development. Team Management: Cultivate a culture of excellence, innovation, and collaboration within the Frontend engineering team. Mentor and support team members in their professional growth and career aspirations. Provide direction and training, manage onboarding processes, and ensure consistency in practices and tools. Promote a culture of teamwork, innovation, and inclusivity. Product Development: Work closely with product managers, designers, and other stakeholders to define and implement the Frontend product roadmap. Ensure timely delivery of high-quality software. Architecture and Design: Lead the design and architecture of Frontend applications, ensuring they are scalable, maintainable, and secure. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align technical solutions with business goals. Code Reviews and Quality Assurance: Conduct regular code reviews and enforce best practices for code quality and testing. Foster a culture of continuous improvement and automated testing. Innovation: Stay updated on Frontend development advancements, identifying opportunities to integrate emerging technologies and methodologies to enhance our products and processes. Recruitment: Partner with HR and talent acquisition teams to identify, recruit, and onboard top-tier Frontend engineering talent. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with engineering leaders from other teams (iOS, backend, etc.) to ensure seamless integration and alignment of technical solutions. Performance Management: Establish clear performance expectations, conduct evaluations, and provide constructive feedback to team members. Address performance challenges and facilitate career development. Adhere to all relevant health and safety regulations.

Qualifications & Skills

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline. Proven experience as a software engineer with a focus on Frontend development. Strong technical expertise in Frontend development. Prior experience in managing or leading a team of engineers. Proficiency in modern software engineering practices, tools, and methodologies. Excellent communication and collaboration abilities. Experience with Agile methodologies. Capability to build agile, high-performing teams. Passion for education and a commitment to enhancing learning experiences. Business-minded approach, understanding the role of technology in business. A pragmatic problem-solving mindset, with a focus on product and business outcomes. Proficient in English, with strong communication skills.
