Research Opportunity in Computational Biology
The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is seeking a highly motivated Master's student to join our Computational Biology group. Our team, led by ICREA professor Alfonso Valencia, is working on a protein coevolution project that aims to identify species-specific protein interactions in bacteria using phylogenetics and coevolution. The successful candidate will contribute to the analysis and interpretation of differences in diverse bacteria protein-protein interaction (PPI) networks, with a focus on detecting functional differences in specific metabolic pathways.

The project involves the development and application of novel computational methods for studying protein coevolution, as well as the analysis and interpretation of large-scale biological data. The researcher will work in a highly collaborative environment, with access to state-of-the-art computational infrastructure and opportunities for collaboration with experts in the field.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply computational methods for protein coevolution analysis
  • Analyze and interpret large-scale biological data
  • Collaborate with the research team to advance the project goals

Requirements
  • Master's degree in Bioinformatics, Biotechnology, or a related field
  • Strong programming skills in Python
  • Experience with structural biology analysis tools, such as ChimeraX and ICM
