Job Title: Research Support Technician

Research Area or Group: Nanostructured Functional Materials

Description of Group/Project:

The Nanostructured Functional Materials group (NANOSFUN) is a research group at the ICN2 that focuses on the development of novel molecular and polymeric functional nanomaterials. Our research aims to create materials with unique properties that can be used in various applications, including health, energy-efficient devices, and environmental sustainability.

Our team is working on a project called BIORESEC, which aims to reduce the impact of drought on health through innovative bioinspired coatings for water regeneration. The project involves the development of polymeric coatings based on catechol moieties, which have shown excellent features such as adhesion, biocompatibility, and low toxicity.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

The research support technician will be involved in various activities related to the fabrication, characterization, and validation of polymeric coatings. This will include the synthesis of polymeric materials, surface modification, and microscopic and spectroscopic characterization techniques. The candidate will also be involved in the process of capturing selected contaminants, such as antibiotics, nitrates, and metal oxides.

Requirements:

Education: Bachelor or Master's degree in Nanoscience and Nanotechnology, Chemistry, Materials Science, or similar.

Knowledge: Science and technology of polymeric coatings, organic chemistry, functionalization routes, surface modification, and experience in the synthesis of polymeric materials.

Professional Experience: Experience in the chemical synthesis and modification of organic and polymeric materials, as well as experience in microscopic and spectroscopic characterization techniques.

Personal Competences:

Excellent communication and writing skills, fluency in English, intrinsic motivation, strong commitment, responsibility, independence, teamwork skills, and ability to write complete technical reports.

Summary of Conditions:

Full-time work (37.5 hours/week), contract length: temporary, location: Bellaterra (Barcelona), salary will depend on qualifications and demonstrated experience, support to relocation issues, life insurance, and estimated incorporation date: November 2024.

The BIORESEC project is funded by the Colaboración Público-Privada 2023 grant CPP2023-010996, aiming to reduce the impact of drought on health through innovative bioinspired coatings for water regeneration. The project is funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 and by ERDF/UE.
