About the Role
We are seeking a skilled Technical Content Specialist to join our team at Semrush. As a key member of our documentation team, you will play a crucial role in creating high-quality technical documentation for our software developer audience.
Key Responsibilities
- Editing and revising drafts of new documentation
- Updating existing documentation and proofreading changes
- Maintaining documentation writing standards, style guides, and templates
- Advising development teams on documentation best practices
- Improving information architecture and making documentation easier to find
- Taking ownership of and completing projects related to Knowledge Sharing and Management
- Writing documentation from scratch (as needed)
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience writing technical documentation, including API documentation, for software developers
- Deep understanding of technical documentation types and ability to create structured and connected web of documents
- Experience with docs-as-code (command line, Git, Markdown/reStructuredText)
- Experience working with static site generators such as MkDocs
- Proactive research and pursuit of subject matter experts
- Fluency in English (near-native or native) and ability to adjust writing style for different audiences
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with documentation linters such as Vale
- Ability to read and understand JavaScript, HTML, and CSS
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and how documentation fits into the software development lifecycle
- Understanding of software development lifecycle and cloud infrastructure basics
- Experience creating infographics, diagrams, or other media for documentation
- Experience with web accessibility
- Familiarity with documentation analytics and related tools
About the Team
The Technical Writers Team at Semrush focuses on managing a broad range of developer documentation, from integration tutorials to API references. We work closely with subject matter experts and readers from multiple teams. We are moving towards docs-as-code, so experience with IDEs and Git is essential. We are also involved in broader Knowledge Management activities and projects.
