The Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC) is a leading research institution in the field of high-performance computing and artificial intelligence. Our mission is to advance scientific knowledge and innovation through the development and application of cutting-edge technologies.

Language Technologies Unit

The Language Technologies Unit at BSC is a multidisciplinary team of researchers and engineers working on various aspects of natural language processing, including machine learning, deep learning, and speech processing. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to lead our Speech team.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead a team of machine learning engineers, data engineers, and computational linguists in the development of speech-related projects.
  2. Collaborate with the Speech team leader to ensure the successful delivery of projects.
  3. Determine team priorities and ensure the timely completion of tasks.
  4. Develop and implement deep learning models for speech-related tasks.
  5. Mentor junior team members to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  6. Contribute to the development of research papers and publications.

Requirements

Education

A Master's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Telecommunications, or a related field is required. A PhD in a relevant field is an asset.

Essential Knowledge and Professional Experience

  • At least 1 year of experience in leading engineering teams in the relevant area.
  • At least 4 years of experience in deep learning frameworks and the relevant area.
  • Published papers on deep learning, specifically in speech.
  • Experience in project management and product development.
  • Knowledge of version control tools and MLOps best practices.

Additional Knowledge and Professional Experience

  • Experience in developing speech and speaker models.
  • Understanding of linguistic concepts.
  • Fluency in English is essential. Proficiency in Spanish and other European languages is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of spoken and written Catalan concepts.

  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively.
  • Ability to work in a team and in a multicultural environment.

Conditions

The position will be located at BSC within the Life Sciences Department. We offer a full-time contract with a competitive salary and benefits package.
