Key Responsibilities:

  • Engagement in satellite formation flying, rendezvous operations, in-orbit servicing (IOS), and active debris removal (ADR).
  • Oversight of entry, descent, and landing missions on planetary bodies (Earth, Mars) and natural satellites.
  • Involvement with launch vehicle systems.
  • Contribution to Earth observation initiatives, including both upstream (flight segment) and downstream activities.
  • Participation in interplanetary exploration and navigation projects.
  • Work with unmanned autonomous vehicles (UAVs, UGVs).
  • System and mission design responsibilities.

Main Duties:

The role encompasses the following responsibilities:

  • Specification, design, implementation, and validation of AOCS and FDIR algorithms applicable to Earth-observation, interplanetary, and ADR/IOS satellites.
  • Specification, design, implementation, and validation of GNC and FDIR algorithms for satellites, launchers, and re-entry vehicles.
  • Support in the procurement of sensors and actuators for GNC and AOCS systems.

Activities May Include:

  • Model-based design implementation of GNC/AOCS algorithms.
  • Simulator design, implementation, and testing.
  • Dynamic systems simulation.
  • Mathematical modeling.
  • Specification and validation of GNC/AOCS solutions.
  • Analysis and trade-off of hardware solutions.
  • Collaboration with the overall system team.
  • Technical and team management.

Education Requirements:

Essential: A recognized engineering degree (Mechanical, Aerospace, Electrical, Electronic) or a related field (e.g., Physics, Mathematics).
Preferred: Postgraduate studies (MSc or PhD) focusing on aeronautical/aerospace engineering, with a solid foundation in at least two of the following areas:

  • Orbital mechanics and atmospheric flight dynamics.
  • FDIR design, implementation, and validation.
  • Classical and robust control techniques (including fixed-structure H∞ synthesis, μ analysis, LPV control).
  • Flight operations.
  • Model-based system engineering.

Professional Experience:

Essential: Minimum of 3 years of practical experience in relevant domains (relevant MSc & PhD studies may also be considered).
Preferred: 5 or more years of experience in the field.

The position will be adjusted according to the level of experience; additional industrial and/or academic experience will be viewed favorably.

Technical Skills:

Essential: The following capabilities are required:

  • Strong background in control and simulation of dynamic systems.
  • Practical experience in aeronautical/aerospace GNC/AOCS and FDIR solutions (experience in ESA/European programmes is advantageous).
  • Ability to comprehend new concepts and apply them to engineering challenges.
  • Proficient programming skills.
  • Experience with Matlab and Simulink.

Preferred: The following capabilities are desired:

  • Experience in flight operations within ESA/European programmes.
  • Background in atmospheric flight.
  • Familiarity with COMPASS and/or GAFE for FDIR design and analysis.
  • Solid theoretical knowledge in GNC/AOCS.
  • Experience with multivariable robust control.
  • Proficiency in Python and C programming.
  • Experience in project management.

Language Proficiency:

Good command of English, both spoken and written.
