About the Energy Unit

The Energy unit delivers services to clients globally across several sectors, including hydropower, nuclear, waste, renewable generation, and transmission & distribution networks. We provide integrated engineering and project management services across the project lifecycle, from concept and design to construction and operations, to decommissioning or repowering and life extension.

Overview of the Role

We are seeking an international social performance consultant to join our team in Madrid. The focus of the role will be on environmental assessment for energy projects, particularly in Europe, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean. We work on some of the most significant generation projects in the world, including solar, hydro, wind, and thermal generation technologies.

This is a permanent role that offers excellent prospects for career development involving different power generation technologies, with a focus on energy projects from development and construction to operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Social and human rights impact assessment and management
  • Social due diligence, equator principle compliance reviews, and construction monitoring
  • Resettlement and indigenous peoples' development planning
  • Public consultation, disclosure, and stakeholder engagement planning
  • Labour rights management planning and auditing
  • Gender analysis and management planning
  • International travel

Requirements

  • Fluent in English and French
  • Degree qualified in a discipline related to sociology, social or international development, or a similar social subject
  • Experience in carrying out social performance assessments for environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA), due diligence, construction monitoring, resettlement action plans for infrastructure projects, or experience with International Finance Corporation (IFC) and other lender social safeguards and their role in project finance processes and cycles
  • Ability to travel in Spain and internationally
  • Held previous roles demonstrating strong interpersonal, communication, and writing skills, teamwork, and an ability to meet challenging budgets and timescales

Desirable Criteria

  • Fluency or work proficiency in Spanish
  • Broader awareness or masters qualification in a social discipline
  • Demonstrable experience in supply chain analysis, environmental social governance services, just transition, gender equality and empowerment, human rights impact assessment, or knowledge of the European Union Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (EU CSRD) requirements
  • Knowledge of the social impacts of energy projects such as solar, hydro, wind, and thermal generation technologies
  • Membership of a relevant professional institute
