About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Legal Counsel to join our team at Dbrs. As a key member of our European operations, you will be responsible for providing legal support to our commercial business initiatives and working closely with our business leaders in the UK and EU.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide legal support to commercial business initiatives and advise on letters of engagement, confidentiality agreements, and due diligence inquiries.
  • Negotiate and advise on rating feed agreements and website subscriptions, and support our data products team in carrying out their activities.
  • Review, negotiate, and advise on non-reliance and hold harmless letters from accounting firms and others providing reports in the credit analytical function.
  • Negotiate, draft, and review commercial contracts related to data service providers, sponsorship agreements, procurement contracts, and other agreements.
  • Work closely with our Compliance team, Regulatory team, Marketing and Communications team, and People and Culture team to ensure that Dbrs is properly managing legal compliance and regulatory responsibilities.
  • Support the commercial legal needs of our Credit Analytics team, including negotiating agreements with potential clients of our platforms and data feeds.
  • Ensure that Dbrs and Credit Analytics commercial activities are conducted in accordance with applicable laws and commercial requirements.
Requirements
  • Law degree and admission to practice as a solicitor in Germany, Spain, or England.
  • At least 5 years of corporate, transactional, or financial services experience, with credit rating, capital markets, or regulatory/compliance experience an advantage.
  • Strong English language skills, with other languages an advantage.
  • Strong business acumen, leadership skills, and ability to influence.
  • Integrity and high degree of professional ethics.
  • Excellent judgement and analytical skills.
  • First-class interpersonal and communication skills.
