Role Objective

The primary responsibility of the Grid Integration Specialist is to oversee and streamline the grid connection processes for new renewable energy projects, including wind, solar, and energy storage, from initial site selection through to construction and operational phases.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Lead the identification of suitable sites and facilitate pre-application discussions with network operators.
  2. Prepare and review application documentation, ensuring that connection agreements are both technically sound and commercially viable.
  3. Maintain relationships with qualified consultants and manage external technical support services.
  4. Collaborate with project management and business development teams to integrate engineering considerations into project development and optimize financial modeling related to grid connections.
  5. Support the tendering process by reviewing project documentation and contributing insights during the design and construction phases.
  6. During construction, assist the team by coordinating testing activities, analyzing performance, and addressing issues with network operators while ensuring compliance with relevant standards.
  7. Act as a representative of EDP Renewables, fostering positive relationships with all stakeholders involved.

Qualifications

Educational Background: A degree in Electrical or Energy Engineering or a related field is required.

Professional Experience: A minimum of 5 to 8 years of experience in the development of wind, solar, or storage projects from a grid perspective is essential.

Technical Expertise:

  • Proven experience in renewable energy projects, particularly in wind, solar, and storage.
  • In-depth knowledge of electricity grid systems, including planning, implementation, and application processes for grid connections in Germany.
  • Ability to optimize grid connection applications effectively.
  • Familiarity with AC and DC electrical design principles for solar PV systems and associated grid connection methodologies.
  • Understanding of high voltage electrical equipment, control systems, SCADA, protection, and metering.
  • Knowledge of distribution network operator processes for renewable generator connections in Germany.
  • Awareness of health and safety regulations pertaining to electrical systems.
  • Strong communication skills to convey complex technical information to non-technical stakeholders.

Language Proficiency: Fluency in both German and English is required.

Skills and Competencies:

  • Possession of a valid German driving license.
  • Strong stakeholder management abilities.
  • Capacity to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
  • Exceptional written communication skills in German.
  • Organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
