We are seeking a highly skilled Legal Counsel to join our team in Spain, based in our Madrid or Barcelona office. As a Legal Counsel for Spain, you will play a critical role in proactively identifying and mitigating legal risks related to our real estate development and operations, with a strong focus on energy and construction law.
Key Responsibilities- Draft, review, negotiate, and manage agreements and other legal documents in relation to data centre and light industrial/logistics projects, including energy, power, and grid connection, RIBA, and EPC agreements.
- Stay updated on relevant laws, regulations, case law, and industry trends impacting the company, and proactively advise on potential legal risks and opportunities.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, standards, and values, and train and educate the Spanish team on relevant legal and compliance matters.
- Manage external law firms effectively and ensure the coordination of legal disputes and/or litigation.
- Work closely with the European legal team, Spanish business team, and wider European team to achieve business objectives.
- Master's degree in law from a Spanish university, with additional degree or LLM considered a plus.
- Excellent knowledge of contract law, construction law, and energy law, with a strong interest in regulatory changes triggered by sustainability.
- At least 8 years of proven experience as a legal counsel or similar role in a company or law firm, with minimum 5 years in construction law for major infrastructure projects and/or data centers.
- Strong analytical, communication, and negotiation skills, with ability to work independently and handle complex legal matters.
- Perfect knowledge of Spanish and English, both written and spoken, with additional knowledge of Catalan a plus.
- Ability to travel on short notice and work under tight time pressure in a fast-changing environment.
