Job Summary

This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC); Naval Station Rota, Spain. The incumbent has oversight of the Fitness, Sports, and Aquatics programs at the installation. Additional programs may be included based on need and installation size.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Management: Plans, organizes, develops, implements, and manages a diverse and comprehensive fitness, sports, and aquatics program, within the scope of objectives and guidelines established at higher organizational levels.
  • Coordination and Collaboration: Coordinates with city, state, other military bases, and pertinent organizations to establish a well-rounded fitness and sports program and to effectively promote all aspects of health/wellness to the community.
  • Event Planning and Execution: Conducts meetings and hosts collaborated events/educational seminars/information fairs, etc.
  • Record Keeping and Evaluation: Maintains records of command participation and determines the winner of individual and base awards and makes arrangements for presentations.
  • Budgeting and Contract Management: Prepares appropriated fund (APF) and NAF budgets, which include the expenditures required to conduct the fitness, sports and aquatics programs (categories A and B). Monitors contract services and properly performs quality assessment and evaluation (QAE) responsibilities.
  • Needs Assessment and Marketing: Completes local needs assessments and/or local surveys annually to determine customer needs and incorporates these findings into the annual program plan. Coordinates with marketing staff to plan and develop promotional advertising, commercial sponsorship, and publicity strategies.
  • Volunteer Management and Recognition
  • Professional Development: Reviews research publications and health journals to ensure currency in methodology and philosophy in the area of health and fitness (e.g., exercise physiology, life-style management, nutrition, and physical conditioning).

This position requires a strong understanding of fitness, sports, and aquatics programs, as well as excellent communication and leadership skills. The ideal candidate will be able to work effectively in a team environment and make sound decisions to promote the health and wellness of the community.
