Role Overview: The Technical Vendor Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing the critical path schedule of Consultants, General Contractors (GC), and the supply chain. The primary goal is to identify, secure, and enhance the value derived from our vendors in Design & Construction (D&C) projects.
This position requires building and nurturing relationships with vendors while assisting in the development of their capabilities to deliver high-quality projects efficiently, safely, and within budget. The focus is on establishing partnerships and fostering long-term relationships.
Key Attributes: Ideal candidates will exhibit a strong sense of ownership, a proactive approach, and high motivation. Experience in Project or Contracts Management within the construction sector is essential.
The role necessitates a deep understanding of Amazon's construction projects and involves close collaboration with consultants, General Contractors, and internal teams such as Procurement, Pre-construction, and Construction.
We seek a passionate self-starter who is decisive and capable of swiftly implementing ideas while cultivating strong relationships with both internal and external stakeholders. Analytical skills are crucial for linking vendor metrics and comparing them against established KPIs.
Proven experience in the construction industry and a history of achieving results in fast-paced environments while balancing the sometimes conflicting needs of various stakeholder groups are required.
Travel Opportunities: This role offers the chance to travel and work across multiple countries and cultures, with approximately 25% of the time spent traveling domestically or to other EMEA countries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain the Vendor Strategy for General Contractors and Consultants in collaboration with the Procurement Team.
- Utilize technical expertise to establish KPIs for assessing vendor performance.
- Conduct metric analysis, leveraging vendor data for comprehensive insights, and evaluate key metrics against organizational targets for informed decision-making.
- Implement methods to collect and synchronize feedback on Developers, GCs, Consultants, and supply chain vendors by monitoring performance throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist the Preconstruction Manager and Procurement during the tendering process.
- Oversee external vendors and support internal teams to ensure the safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of CAPEX projects.
- Manage vendor claims and escalations, delve into technical details, and lead problem resolution while safeguarding Amazon's interests, driving process improvements, and fostering productive relationships.
- Support the management of critical path schedule items and escalate potential risks and delays to leadership.
- Act as a business partner with Procurement, Pre-Construction, and Construction teams, driving the execution of commercial and technical deliverables.
- Collaborate closely with Preconstruction, Construction, and Project Delivery Teams to ensure adequate country capacity for General Contractor and Consultancy sourcing.
- Identify opportunities and provide input to automate and simplify processes to enhance productivity.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
- University degree in Civil Engineering or Architecture.
- Demonstrated project management experience in construction or contracts management.
- Strong analytical skills with a proficiency in data-driven argumentation.
- Proficient in Excel and software tools for delivering vendor metrics and conducting data analysis.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Cross-functional experience, particularly in procurement, planning, cost control, contracts, or project management.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel, including macros, database management, QuickSight, or similar software.
- Experience in contract management (FIDIC, NEC, JTC, etc.), drafting contracts, or legal correspondence is advantageous.
- Previous experience in technical or management roles on construction sites is a plus.
- Proficiency in German, French, Polish, Arabic, or Turkish is considered a preferred qualification.
