Ethernet and Optical Transmission Specialist

As a Transmission Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the reliability and efficiency of our pan-European Ethernet and optical infrastructure. Your expertise will be crucial in maintaining high service levels and providing exceptional support to our customers.
Key Responsibilities- Proactively monitor, troubleshoot, and resolve faults across a diverse range of transmission services, adhering to product SLAs and providing up to 3rd Level Support.
- Utilize your knowledge of Optical and Ethernet-based Networks to enhance service delivery.
- Participate in a 24/7 shift pattern to ensure continuous operational support.
- Develop a comprehensive understanding of customer-specific networks and services.
- Act as a Single Point of Contact for customers, delivering a professional interface for all issues.
- Foster and maintain relationships with key interconnect partners and vendors.
- Coordinate tasks assigned to other teams, including Field Maintenance and Technical Assistance Centre.
- Document events throughout fault durations using Colt's Remedy-based Fault Management System, providing regular updates as necessary.
- Resolve or escalate faults appropriately, in line with product SLAs.
- Identify, plan, and implement solutions for recurring issues on IP and Ethernet Networks.
- Generate technical reports for customer RFO/RCA requests.
- Manage software upgrades in collaboration with vendors and Colt teams.
To succeed in this role, you should possess:
- Direct experience in Transmission Services and Technologies, including a solid understanding of MSP, PCM, Ethernet, WDM, DWDM, TDM, ADM, DCS, DXC, SDH, and PDH.
- Proven experience with transmission equipment and management systems from vendors such as Marconi, ALU, Lucent, Nortel, Nokia, NSN, Siemens, Overture, Adva, Infinera, Aspen, Netcool, Smarts, Ciena, and Accedian.
- Knowledge of provisioning and maintaining IP, Ethernet, and Optical services across Backbone Networks.
- Excellent understanding of LAN (Ethernet) based products.
- Experience with Network Management and Support systems like Netcool, SMARTS, CiscoWorks, InfoVista, TACACS, and Vendor Specific Element Managers.
- Experience collaborating with global providers, NOC, and Field operators on technical issues.
- A logical approach to fault finding and troubleshooting.
- Ability to manage complex technical situations calmly and professionally.
- Exceptional customer-facing skills, capable of addressing specialist requests regarding comprehensive solutions.
- Customer-focused with effective communication skills for engaging with internal and external partners.
- Fluency in English; proficiency in a second European language is advantageous.
- Experience in diagnosing and troubleshooting IP Access, MPLS, and VPN solutions across a pan-European network.
- Formal IT qualifications such as CCNA.
- Familiarity with Juniper equipment and technologies.
- Experience with ITIL methodologies.
- Understanding of UNIX-based applications and troubleshooting tools like Telnet, FTP, TFTP, and Traceroute.
