About the Role

As part of AWS' EMEA Energy & Water team, the AWS Infrastructure Energy Team (IET) for Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) is seeking a results-driven individual to join as an Energy Projects Manager. This position owns the end-to-end power scaling strategy for multiple countries within the EMEA footprint. The role's scope encompasses analyzing, developing, and implementing strategies for interconnecting data centers and scaling business across power grids. The ultimate deliverable is to ensure secure, resilient, and scalable power access across 2-3 countries, avoiding constraints on AWS business growth for customers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive power growth strategy for AWS' EMEA data centers in new and existing regions, collaborating with real estate and planning teams.
  • Prospect for, originate, and contract power capacity needed to support data center delivery.
  • Identify risks in power grid delivery and operation, and develop mitigations in collaboration with partner teams.
  • Identify and develop cost-saving projects and initiatives related to grid and network infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with electricity utilities and external stakeholders to develop strategies supporting AWS' EMEA expansion.
  • Work with AWS' Public Policy team to develop policies and guidelines enabling broader AWS strategies and objectives.
A Day in the Life

This role leverages project management skills to manage internal business partners and energy stakeholders. It drives tactical execution of power contracts and initiatives, establishes and grows business and technical relationships, and meets energy team objectives to support AWS' EMEA infrastructure expansion.

About the Team

The Infrastructure Energy team is a dynamic group of 14 members, based in Dublin, London, Madrid, Dubai, and Frankfurt. The team is responsible for originating, contracting, and delivering reliable power connections to AWS data centers across EMEA. The work is divided among Energy Project Managers (EPMs) and Grid Delivery Managers (GDMs), supported by business analysts. The EPMs prospect for, originate, and secure power needed for AWS data centers, while GDMs lead large-scale HV & MV infrastructure connections.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Power Engineering or a relevant technical field, or equivalent professional or technical qualification.
  • 7-10+ years of delivery experience in the electric utility/energy industry, including a deep understanding of the grid application process, grid access rules, and electricity grids.
  • Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects, requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven track record of cultivating strong relationships with key clients and external stakeholders, resulting in high customer satisfaction.
  • Working proficiency in German and English languages, both written and spoken.
