Senior Back-End Engineer (Python)

Location: Valencia, Spain - Hybrid

As we enter a phase of hyper-growth, our engineering team is seeking a highly experienced Senior Back-End Engineer, proficient in Python development, with a T-shaped skill set and expertise in frameworks such as FastAPI. Given our focus on cutting-edge AI solutions, a keen interest in machine learning, particularly in large language models like ChatGPT, would be an excellent fit.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and enhance Datamaran's web applications and data processing systems.
  • Guide and mentor fellow developers on best practices in back-end development and industry standards.
  • Debug, deploy, and maintain large-scale applications, including APIs and processing pipelines.
  • Evaluate trade-offs when designing and implementing features within back-end systems.
  • Collaborate closely with Frontend developers, Product Managers, and other Agile team members to create and implement new features.
  • Stay updated on the latest industry standards and technologies, applying them to enhance our products.
  • Contribute to product discovery phases by providing valuable insights regarding user needs and potential solutions.

Overview of Our Tech Stack:

  • Our web application utilizes JavaScript and other technologies.
  • We utilize ElasticSearch and MongoDB for data storage and are exploring SQL-based and vector databases.
  • Our server-side and data pipelines are built using Python and FastAPI.
  • All services are hosted on AWS, utilizing EC2 and Lambda functions.
  • Our data pipelines focus on analyzing textual data to identify patterns within lengthy documents (reports, regulations, news articles, etc.).

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related discipline.
  • Over 5 years of experience in back-end development.
  • Proficient in Python, including common API frameworks (e.g., FastAPI) and libraries (e.g., pandas).
  • Some experience in front-end development and a willingness to engage in front-end tasks as needed.
  • Familiarity with the AWS environment and Unix/Linux systems.
  • Strong understanding of development best practices, including SOLID principles, testing, and CI/CD.
  • Must reside within a commutable distance to Valencia and be willing to work from the Datamaran hub regularly.
  • Fluency in English is essential, as we operate in a global environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks.
  • Proven experience with machine learning tools in Python (e.g., pandas, spaCy, langchain).
  • Knowledge of architectural concepts such as MVC, CQRS, and DDD.
  • Experience with relational databases, MongoDB, and/or ElasticSearch.
  • Familiarity with Airflow (preferably version 2).
  • Experience in developing data processing pipelines.
